  1. 21. Amino acid-catalyzed synthesis of amino acid derivatives : Application and semi-synthesis of Paclitaxel, Docetaxel and their derivatives

    Author : Pawel Dziedzic; Armando Córdova; Stephen Hanessian; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Organocatlysis; amino acids; syntesis; Taxol and Taxotere derivatives; Chemistry; Kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with different applications of organocatalysis, where amino acid derivatives and small peptides are applied as catalysts. First, the development of environmentally friendly aldol reactions, carried out in aqueous media is illustrated. The corresponding β-hydroxy ketones are formed with ee´s up to 99%. READ MORE

  2. 22. Ruthenium-catalyzed hydrogen transfer involving amines and imines : Mechanistic studies and synthetic applications

    Author : Joseph S M Samec; Jan-E Bäckvall; Jack R. Norton; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with ruthenium-catalyzed hydrogen transfer involving amines and imines and is divided into two parts. In Part 1 a mechanistic study has been performed. READ MORE

  3. 23. Eco-friendly and Catalytic Surface Engineering of Cellulose and Nanocellulose

    Author : Rana Alimohammadzadeh; Armando Cordova; Dan Bylund; Monica Ek; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The non-stop use of petroleum-based materials such as plastics can generate significant environmental problems, including pollution of the oceans and increased CO2 levels, and cause diseases like cancer due to the starting monomers. Consequently, increased use of sustainable and non-toxic polymers and monomers is required to address these issues. READ MORE

  4. 24. Asymmetric Hydrogenations using N, P - Ligated Iridium Complexes

    Author : Alexander Paptchikhine; Pher G. Andersson; Karl Anker Jørgensen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; asymmetric hydrogenation; iridium; birch; boronates; fluorine;

    Abstract : The research described in this thesis focuses on the catalytic asymmetric hydrogenation of prochiral olefins using N, P – chelated iridium catalysts. This catalytic system is tolerant to a wide range of substrates and performs better than the well-known ruthenium- and rhodium-catalytic systems for substrates devoid of coordinating groups in proximity of the olefin. 5. 25. Quantum Chemical Studies of Mechanisms and Stereoselectivities of Organocatalytic Reactions

    Author : Peter Hammar; Hans Ågren; Fahmi Himo; Gregori Ujaque; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Theoretical chemistry; Teoretisk kemi; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : As the field of organocatalysis is growing, it is becoming more important to understand the specific modes of action of these new organic catalysts. Quantum chemistry, in particular density functional theory, has proven very powerful in exploring reaction mechanisms as well as selectivities in organocatalytic reactions, and is the tool used in this thesis.
