  2. 2. Superimposition of Contractional Structures in Models and Nature

    Author : Hongling Deng; Hemin Koyi; Sudipta Sengupta; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; superimposition; progressive deformation; multiple phases; coaxial; non-coaxial; analogue modelling; fold-and-thrust belts; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Abstract : Superimposition of contractional structures is widely observed in different scales in the world. Superimposed structures form due to different processes: change in strain accommodation from one type of structure to another during a single progressive shortening; successive coaxial shortening phases separated by an unconformity; superimposition of different non-coaxial shortening phases. 3. 3. Structures and Properties of Ferroelectric Liquid Crystal Displays

    Author : Marek Matuszczyk; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; smectic; displays; dielectric anisotropy and biaxiality; surface-stabilized structure; dielectric; paraelectric; liquid crystal alignment; electroclinic effect; grey scale; polarization; multiplexing; liquid crystal LC ; orthogonal and tilted phases; chirality; aligning layer; ferroelectric; polyimide; rubbing; light valves and modulators; SSFLC;

    Abstract : Liquid crystals have unique physical properties as they combine the features of solids and liquids. In thermotropic liquid crystals the degree of order varies with temperature resulting in an appearance of intermediate phases. READ MORE

  4. 4. A Particle Image Velocimetry Study of Bubbly Gas-Liquid Flow

    Author : Xiaoyun Tu; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; turbulent dispersion; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; turbulence; Rushton turbine; stirred tank; slip velocity; bubbly gas liquid two-phase flow; coherent structure; CCD camera; PIV; POD;

    Abstract : The aim of this work is to build a framework that can be used for characterizing the bubbly gas liquid turbulent flow in the stirred bioreactor tank. To this end we have developed and modified techniques with which to measure the velocity of both dispersed gas and carrier liquid phases by the optical measurement technique, a 2-CCD camera Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) system; and to characterize the turbulence by the wavelets tool, Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD). 5. 5. Nanoparticle-based capillary electrochromatography

    Author : Peter Spégel; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Teknik; Technological sciences; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Nanoparticles; Molecularly imprinted polymers; Capillary electrochromatography;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns a highly efficient nanoparticle-based capillary electrochromatography separation technique and its coupling with mass spectrometric detection. From chromatographic theory, it is well known that the separation efficiency increases with decreasing particle size. READ MORE
