  2. 2. Holocene climate and atmospheric circulation changes in northern Fennoscandia : Interpretations from lacustrine oxygen isotope records

    Author : Christina E. Jonsson; Gunhild Rosqvist; Jan Seibert; Philip Barker; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; oxygen isotope; diatom silica; lake sediment; atmospheric circulation; North Atlantic Oscillation; northern Fennoscandia; The Holocene; Little Ice Age; Physical geography; Naturgeografi; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates how variations in the oxygen isotopic composition of lake waters in northern Fennoscandia are recorded in lake sediment archives, especially diatoms, and how these variations can be used to infer past changes in climate and atmospheric circulation. Results from analyses of the oxygen isotopic composition of lake water samples (δ18Olakew) collected between 2001 and 2006 show that δ18O of northern Fennoscandian lakes is mainly controlled by the isotopic composition of the precipitation (δ18Op). 3. 3. Impacts of climate oscillation on precipitation and river flows of small scale river basins in Eastern Northeast Brazil

    Author : Denis Duda Costa; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Eastern Northeast Brazil; Droughts; Floods; Climate patterns; Hydrological model; Weather radar;

    Abstract : The Northeast region of Brazil is one of the most susceptible parts of the country to the effects of climate variability leading to severe droughts or extreme floods. Indeed, drought is a major issue due to a large semiarid area that covers 53% of the region, which determines the main climate characteristics of this region. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the surface quality of continuously cast steels and phosphor bronzes

    Author : Saud Saleem; Hasse Fredriksson; Michael Vynnycky; Toshihiko Emi Takaido Higashi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Continuous Casting; Steels; Ni-based alloy; Peritectic; Phosphor Bronzes; Simulation and Modeling; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering; Industriell ekonomi och organisation; Industrial Engineering and Management; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis work concerns about the importance of the cast surfaces, surface phenomenon such as the formation of the oscillation marks and exudation and related defects including cracks and segregation that happened during the continuous casting. All of the investigated materials were collected during the plant trials while an in-depth analysis on these materials was performed at the laboratory scale with certain explanations supported by the schematic and theoretical models. 5. 5. Wildfire influences on stream water geochemistry in a boreal catchment

    Author : Fredrik Nordblad; Hjalmar Laudon; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Abstract : Forest wildfires are important for the structure and functioning of boreal ecosystems including biogeochemical processes. During the last decades, natural forest fires have been successfully suppressed in Fennoscandia. Therefore, our knowledge on the biogeochemical effects of forest fires is limited. READ MORE
