  1. 31. Neuromusculoskeletal interfacing of lower limb prostheses

    Author : Alexander Thesleff; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; OPRA; bone-anchored attachment; Enhanced Osseointegrated Prostheses for the Rehabilitation of Amputees e-OPRA .; Osseointegration; direct skeletal attachment; neuromusculoskeletal interface; OPRA; Osseointegrated Prostheses for the Rehabilitation of Amputees OPRA ; Enhanced Osseointegrated Prostheses for the Rehabilitation of Amputees e-OPRA .;

    Abstract : The method of bone-anchored attachment of limb prostheses via a percutaneous skeletal extension was developed to circumvent commonly reported problems associated with the conventional method of socket attachment. In addition to the direct structural connection, the percutaneous implant may serve as a conduit for bidirectional communication between muscles and nerves within the residual limb and the prosthesis. 2. 32. Infections associated with percutaneous osseointegrated titanium implants for limb prostheses

    Author : Jonatan Tillander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; osteomyelitis; osseointegration; percutaneous implant; titanium; amputation; long-term risk; clinical presentation; biofilm;

    Abstract : Femoral amputation is a devastating event. Percutaneous, bone anchored prosthetic systems reduce problems associated with socket suspended prostheses, but the design is inherently vulnerable to infection. READ MORE

  3. 33. On the pathogenesis of infections associated with percutaneous osseointegrated orthopaedic implants

    Author : Magdalena Zaborowska; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; osseointegration; amputation prosthesis; implant-associated infection; biofilm; staphylococci; extracellular vesicles; host defence; cytokines; cell death;

    Abstract : Orthopaedic implants enable the restitution of locomotor function and improve the quality of life of many people. However, biomaterial-associated infection may occur due to the propensity of microorganisms to adhere and colonize implant surfaces. READ MORE

  4. 34. Human embryonic stem cells for bone engineering applications

    Author : Giuseppe Maria de Peppo; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human skeleton; bone; bone defects; bone regeneration; regenerative medicine; tissue engineering; biomaterials; scaffold; biocoral; titanium; osseointegration bioreactor; human stem cells; embryonic stem cells; mesenchymal stem cells; embryonic-derived progenitors; osteogenic differentiation; mineralization; immune response; in vitro; in vivo;

    Abstract : The human skeleton represents the supporting structure of the organism and accounts for about 20 percent of the total body mass. Despite its intrinsic capacity to regenerate and self-repair, this ability is limited and repair therapies are needed in a large number of clinical cases. READ MORE

  5. 35. On Influence Of Undersized Implant Site On Implant Stability And Osseointegration

    Author : Michele Stocchero; Malmö universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dental implant; primary stability; surgical protocol; undersized osteotomy;

    Abstract : The use of dental implants for the rehabilitation of edentulous areas is an established treatment, showing high success rates. Primary stability is one of the pre-requisites for osseointegration, and it is ensured by the mechanical interlocking at the bone to implant interface. READ MORE
