  1. 6. On the repair of the dentine barrier

    Author : Helena Fransson; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dentine; dental pulp capping; immunohistochemistry; enamel matrix proteins; bacteria; dental pulp exposure;

    Abstract : Det övergripande målet för avhandlingen har varit att studera några aspekter av läkningen av tandens huvudsakliga hårdvävnad, dentinet. Vid mycket djupa kariesangrepp där dentinet förstörts och pulpan därmed blottats, rotbehandlas ofta tanden vilket innebär att pulpan tas bort och att rotkanalen fylls med ett rotfyllningsmaterial. 2. 7. From other to self. Learning as Interactional Change

    Author : Cathrin Martin; Sverker Lindblad; Fritjof Sahlström; Roger Säljö; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Education; learning; interaction; conversation analysis; participation; physiotherapy; Pedagogik; Education; Pedagogik; pedagogik; Education;

    Abstract : The aim of this study is to empirically develop the understanding of learning as changing participation. The point of departure is that learning is interactionally and situationally constituted and made visible as changes in participation. READ MORE

  3. 8. Articular and epiphyseal cartilage : its formation, maintenance and repair

    Author : Lei Li; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Long bones develop via a series of ordered processes, initiated from mesenchymal stem cell condensation, cartilage anlagen formation, followed by central cell hypertrophy and vascular invasion and the finalized by the formation of primary and secondary ossification centers (SOC), where the latter is also called endochondral ossification. As long bone develops, it can be distinguished in to several morphologically distinct parts: the main shaft of a long bone, called diaphysis; a narrow disc of growth plate, providing a continuous supply of chondrocytes for longitudinal growth; a thin layer of articular cartilage at the ends of epiphysis, supporting joint movement, and a SOC, sandwiched between the two pieces of cartilage. 4. 9. Quantum Chemical Studies of Protein-Bound Chromophores, UV-Light Induced DNA Damages, and Lignin Formation

    Author : Bo Durbeej; Leif Eriksson; Tim Clark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantum chemistry; quantum chemistry; calculations; density functional theory; excited states; photochemistry; chromophores; absorption spectra; bathochromic shift; isomerization; UV radiation; DNA damages; cycloaddition reactions; photoenzymic repair; electron transfer; lignin; polymerization; phenoxy radicals; dilignols; Kvantkemi; Quantum chemistry; Kvantkemi;

    Abstract : Quantum chemical methods have been used to provide a better understanding of the photochemistry of astaxanthin and phytochromobilin; the photoenzymic repair of UV-light induced DNA damages; and the formation of lignin. The carotenoid astaxanthin (AXT) is responsible for the colouration of lobster shell. READ MORE

  5. 10. Role of DNA repair in class switch recombination and somatic hypermutation

    Author : Likun Du; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Class switch recombination (CSR) and somatic hypermutation (SHM), occurring in the germinal center, are two important processes for B cell development. Both are initiated by activation-induced cytidine deaminase (AID), through deamination of the C residues in the variable and switch regions of the immunoglobulin locus, resulting in either in single stranded or double stranded DNA breaks.
