1. OVULATION: Intra-ovarian mechanisms
Abstract : Background: Ovulation is the central biological process involved in the menstrual cycle of women. Specifically, ovulation involves the tissue remodelling of the preovulatory follicle to achieve the rupture of the exterior follicle wall with the extrusion of the oocyte. READ MORE

2. Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). Aspects on immune and endocrine mechanisms
Abstract : The ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is a well-known side effect of ovarian stimulation for ovulation induction or for in vitro fertilisation. The syndrome is characterised by massively enlarged ovaries and a hyperpermeable/procoagulant state, giving rise to diverse symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, ascites, hypovolemia and thromboembolism. 3. Molecular mechanisms of ovarian follicular development and early embryogenesis
Abstract : In the mammalian ovary, the dormant primordial follicles are the source of developing follicles and fertilizable ova for the entire reproductive life. In addition, the duration of fertility of a female is determined by the initial size of her pool of primordial follicles and by the rate of its activation and depletion. READ MORE

4. Three-dimensional ultrasound studies of normal and abnormal ovaries
Abstract : The aims of this work were: 1) to estimate the number of follicles, ovarian volume and power Doppler vascular indices and their changes with age using three-dimensional (3D) transvaginal grey-scale and power Doppler ultrasound in asymptomatic women of fertile age either with natural menstrual cycles or using combined oral contraceptives, and 2) to determine whether tumour vascularity, assessed by 3D power Doppler ultrasound, can help discriminate between benign and malignant ovarian tumours. A group of 303 gynaecologically asymptomatic women, aged 20–39 years with normal menstrual cycles (NMC) and another group of 213 women aged 20–39 years using combined oral contraceptives (COC) were examined using two-dimensional (2D) and 3D transvaginal ultrasound once between cycle day 4 and 8. 5. Polycystic ovary syndrome - morphologic and dynamic evaluation by magnetic resonance imaging
Abstract : Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex endocrine disorder, affecting up to 15% of women of reproductive age. The syndrome is characterized by oligo-anovulation, hyperandrogenism and polycystic ovaries. What constitutes the best definition of PCOS is still a matter of debate. READ MORE
