    Abstract : Ovarian steroid hormones are known to produce several different effects in the brain. In addition to their role in gonadotropin release, ovulation and sexual behaviour they also seem to affect mood and emotions, as shown in women with the premenstrual tension syndrome. Some steroids have the ability to affect brain excitability. READ MORE

  3. 3. Human ovarian surface epithelium and ovarian cancer. Aspects of growth regulation

    Author : Karin Ivarsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : ovarian cancer ovarian surface epithelium interleukin-8 C EBP gonadotropins steroids;

    Abstract : The ovary is covered with a single layer of epithelial cells, the ovarian surface epithelium (OSE). The OSE is degraded during every menstrual cycle to enable ovulation, and is subsequently reconstituted to cover the rupture site. This single cell layer is proposed as the origin for about 90 % of all ovarian cancers. READ MORE

  4. 4. Ovarian tumours, cell isolation, cell survival and sex steroids

  5. 5. Metabolic and ovarian consequences of perinatal sex steroid programming

    Author : Camilla Alexanderson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : programming; sex steroids; insulin resistance; skeletal muscle; adipose tissue; ovary;

    Abstract : Endocrine and metabolic disturbances in adulthood may stem from insults such as nutritional and hormonal alterations that occur at critical periods in pre- or postnatal life – a process known as programming. This means that suboptimal conditions in utero and early life may contribute to adult reproductive and metabolic impairments such as type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, and dyslipidemia. READ MORE
