1. Signaling pathways in the development of female germ cells
Abstract : Primordial follicles are the first small follicles to appear in the mammalian ovary. Women are born with a fixed number of primordial follicles in the ovaries. Once formed, the pool of primordial follicles serves as a source of developing follicles and oocytes. READ MORE

2. Growth hormone and somatolactin function during sexual maturation of female Atlantic salmon
Abstract : Background and aims: The growth hormone-insulin-like growth factor I (GH-IGF-I) system is known to act during sexual maturation of female salmonids, but the specific roles are not known. Somatolactin (SL) is a pituitary hormone closely related to GH and is only found in fish. In some species, including salmonids, there are two forms, SLa and SLß. READ MORE

3. Xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes and enzymes involved in the metabolism of reactive oxygen species in the porcine ovary : subcellular distributions and levels of expression during follicular maturation and in the non-pregnant and pregnant corpus luteum
Abstract : The polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA) is metabolized by both porcine ovarian microsomes and mitochondria, with the highest activity being seen in the corpus luteum. Microsomal DMBA monooxygenase activity is inhibited by inhibitors of the CYP450 system and by 17-bestradiol, thus indicating involvement of CYP1B1. READ MORE

4. The human ovary : a characterization of cell types and adverse ovarian side effects of chemotherapy
Abstract : The human ovary has a major role in the body’s endocrine and reproductive system. Understanding its cell type composition is crucial in order to study underlying mechanisms of hormonal balance and ovarian follicle maturation in health and disease. The outer lining of the ovary, the cortex, harbors the ovarian reserve. READ MORE

5. Developmental origins of polycystic ovary syndrome : role of early adverse life events on adult health
Abstract : The research focus of this thesis is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), the most common endocrine disorder among women of reproductive age, associated with reproductive, cardio-metabolic, and mental health complications. Despite the high prevalence, little is known about the etiology of the syndrome. READ MORE
