  1. 11. Effects of electrical accidents : occupational and health perspectives

    Author : Lisa Rådman; Magnus Thordstein; Håkan Olausson; Kerstin Norman; Finn Nilson; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Electrical accident; Neurosensory symptoms; No-let-go phenomenon; Pain; Voltage; Quantitative sensory testing;

    Abstract : Professionals working in the electrical industry are at risk of accidental injuries caused by electricity. Electrical accidents can cause persistent neurological symptoms, previously mainly described in patients whose injuries were initially extensive. READ MORE

  2. 12. Volatile organic compounds from microorganisms : identification and health effects

    Author : Anna-Sara Claeson; Anna-Lena Sunesson; Jan-Olof Levin; Steven Nordin; Bengt Järvholm; Charles Weschler; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : microorganisms; building materials; VOCs; MVOCs; amines; LC-MS MS; exposure; perceived air quality; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Abstract : Damp building materials are subjected to degradation processes due to moisture and also microbial growth, with both of these giving rise to emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that may contribute to indoor air health problems. The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate emissions of reactive and non-reactive VOCs from damp building materials and from the microorganisms growing on them, and also to investigate the possible health impact of these compounds. 3. 13. Using Connected Vehicles in Variable Speed Limit Systems: : System Design and Effects

    Author : Ellen F. Grumert; Jan Lundgren; Andreas Tapani; Francesc Soriguera; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Motorway traffic management systems are useful for improving the traffic conditions on urban motorways. One of the most common motorway traffic management systems are variable speed limit systems. READ MORE

  4. 14. Numerical Studies of Wall Effects of Laminar Flames

    Author : Johan Andrae; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wall effects; laminar premixed flames; Chemkin; boundary layer flow; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Numerical simulations have been done with the CHEMKINsoftware to study different aspects of wall effects in thecombustion of lean, laminar and premixed flames in anaxisymmetric boundary-layer flow. The importance of the chemical wall effects compared to thethermal wall effects caused by the development of the thermaland velocity boundary layer has been investigated in thereaction zone by using different wall boundary conditions, walltemperatures and fuel/air ratios. 5. 15. Adverse effects of curative treatment of prostate cancer

    Author : Jon Örn Fridriksson; Pär Stattin; Camilla Thellenberg-Karlsson; Mats Lambe; Francesco Montorsi; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; prostate-specific antigen; decision aids; radical prostatectomy; radiotherapy; patient readmission; adverse effects; Urology; kirurgi; särskilt urologi;

    Abstract : Background Screening for prostate cancer is debated, there is conflicting data on the net benefit of screening. Men who consider screening need to be informed on the pros and cons. Rehospitalization after surgery can be used as an indicator of general quality of care. For radical prostatectomy, little is known on the readmission rate after surgery. READ MORE
