  1. 11. The warship Vasa : A Study of Lignin, Extractives and Acids in the oak wood

    Author : Dina Dedic; Monica Ek; Bjarne Holmbom; Sigbritt Karlsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The oak wood timbers of the 17th century Swedish warship Vasa are weak. The weakening has been attributed to cellulose degradation, which is more extensive in the interior of the timbers compared to the surface regions. Further, the mechanism of cellulose degradation was attributed to oxidative reactions involving iron as a catalyst. READ MORE

  2. 12. Implication of chemical deterioration on mechanical performance of wood

    Author : Shahin Norbakhsh; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The oak wood of the 17th century warship Vasa has shown significant changes in the chemical and mechanical properties as compared to recent oak. The most important factors contributing to these changes are the incorporation of iron compounds during waterlogging and the uptake of polyethylene glycol (PEG) in the course of the preservation treatment. 3. 13. Laccases and Oxalate-Degrading Enzymes Heterologous Expression and Novel Applications in Lignocellulose Processing

    Author : Pierre Cassland; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; virologi; mykologi; bacteriology; Microbiology; Lignocellulose Processing; Heterologous expression; Laccases; Oxalate-Degrading Enzymes; bakteriologi;

    Abstract : Lignocellulose constitutes a vast renewable resource for the production of, for example, paper and bioethanol. The potential of using laccase and oxalate-degrading enzymes in novel applications for the processing of lignocellulose was investigated in this work. READ MORE

  4. 14. Low Molecular Weight Organic Acids and Their Aluminium Complexes in Forest Soils

    Author : Patrick van Hees; F. C. Ugolini; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The significance of low molecular weight (LMW) organic acids and their aluminium (Al) complexes in soil solutions of podzolized soils was examined. Methods for the analysis of these compounds and complexes were developed, and the impact of these substances on the weathering and podzolization processes was studied. READ MORE

  5. 15. Protective and Nanoporous Alumina Films Studied in situ by X-ray and Electrochemical Methods

    Author : Jonas Evertsson; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; XRR; XPS; XRF; GTSAXS; EIS; Synchrotron Radiation; Native oxide; Anodization; Anodic aluminum oxide; Nanoporous aluminum oxide; Single crystal; Aluminum alloys; in situ; Fysicumarkivet A:2018:Evertsson;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the studies of native and anodic oxides on both aluminum model single crystal surfaces as well as on aluminum alloys found in applications are presented. The focus has been on the characterization in situ as the oxide is growing by an electrochemical process called anodization. READ MORE
