  1. 11. Impact of Cultivation Parameters on Cell Physiology of Limosilactobacillus reuteri

    Author : Nikhil Seshagiri Rao; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; probiotics; L. reuteri; oxygen; fermentation; heterogeneity; morphology; flow cytometery; freeze-drying; stress tolerance; Online flow cytometry; k-means clustering; fatty acids; defined minimal media; pre-formulation hold time;

    Abstract : Optimisation of cultivation conditions in the industrial production of probiotics is crucial to reach a high-quality product with high probiotic functionality. The production process includes a fermentation step to produce biomass, accompanied by centrifugation to concentrate the cells. READ MORE

  2. 12. The Role of Kidney Oxygen Homeostasis for the Development of Kidney Disease

    Author : Carla Carvalho; Fredrik Palm; Peter Hansell; Malou Friederich; Jenny Nyström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oxygen; Kidney mitochondria; Hypoxia-inducible factors; Prolyl hydroxylase; von Hippel-Lindau; Diabetes; Aging; Kidney; Sodium; RAAS; Fysiologi; Physiology;

    Abstract : The relation between oxygen supply and demand determines tissue oxygen tension (PO2). When intrarenal tissue PO2 decreases, any compensatory increase in oxygen supply via increased renal blood flow is likely to increase glomerular filtration rate. READ MORE

  3. 13. Hyperbaric oxygen treatment for pelvic radiation-induced injuries. From a multicenter randomized controlled trial to an experimental cell model

    Author : Nicklas Oscarsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hyperbaric oxygen treatment; hyperbaric oxygen; late radiation-induced injury; cystitis; proctitis; reactive oxygen species; radiation therapy; quality of life;

    Abstract : Introduction Cancer is affecting a growing number of persons. Still, the treatment and survival of cancer is improving. Radiation therapy is used in the treatment of cancer. Late radiation-induced injuries afflict 5–15% of irradiated patients. READ MORE

  4. 14. Development of a New Biomechanical ex vivo Perfusion System - Studies on effects of biomechanical and inflammatory stress on hemostatic genes in human vascular endothelium

    Author : Niklas Bergh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : ex vivo perfusion system; biomechanical; endothelium; shear stress; tensile stress; pulsatile; TNF-α; JNK; hemostatic genes;

    Abstract : The vascular endothelium is a multifunctional interface constantly exposed to biomechanical forces such as shear and tensile stress. Biomechanical stress is involved in the pathophysiological process of the vessel wall and thus affects vascular remodeling, atherosclerosis and thrombogenesis. READ MORE

  5. 15. Study of molecular mechanism(s) underlying neurodegeneration in SCA7 disease : Role of NOX enzymes and oxidative stress

    Author : Abiodun Ajayi; Anna-Lena Ström; Boris Zhivotosky; Bengt Mannervik; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neurodegeneration; polyglutamine; oxidative stress; metabolism; NADPH oxidase; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Abstract : Spinocerebellar ataxia type 7 (SCA7) is an autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disorder caused by a CAG trinucleotide expansion in the SCA7/ATXN7 gene resulting in progressive ataxia and retinal dystrophy. SCA7 belongs to a group of neurodegenerative disorders called polyglutamine (polyQ) diseases, that share the common feature of glutamine tract expansions within otherwise unrelated proteins. READ MORE
