  1. 6. Transcriptional and epigenetic control of gene expression in embryo development

    Author : Ann Boija; Mattias Mannervik; Jerry L. Workman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Epigenetics; Cell specification; Drosophila embryo; Dorsal morphogen; CBP p300; Gene regulation; Chromatin; Promoter proximal Pol II pausing; utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental Biology;

    Abstract : During cell specification, temporal and spatially restricted gene expression programs are set up, forming different cell types and ultimately a multicellular organism. In this thesis, we have studied the molecular mechanisms by which sequence specific transcription factors and coactivators regulate RNA polymerase II (Pol II) transcription to establish specific gene expression programs and what epigenetic patterns that follows. 2. 7. Gene regulation mechanisms by the transcriptional coregulator mastermind-like 1

    Author : Mariana Saint Just Ribeiro; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Acetylation autoacetylation; chromatin; trnascription; coregulator; Mastermind-like 1 MAML1 ; p300; Notch signaling; phosphorylation; GSK3beta;

    Abstract : MAML1 was first identified as a coactivator for Notch receptors, but later it was also found to function as a coactivator for several other activators, including p53, beta-catenin, and MEF2C. MAML1 is critical for Notch signalling and has been shown to act cooperatively with the histone acetyltransferase (HAT) p300 in transcription that is mediated by the Notch intracellular domain (Notch IC). 3. 8. Molecular mechanisms of the transcriptional co-activator mastermind-like 1

    Author : Magnus L Hansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Gene regulation is a complex process that requires several types of proteins, including chromatin-modifying enzymes, transcription factors, co-activators and co-repressors. We have investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying the action of the co-activator protein MAML1, which was first identified as a transcriptional co-activator for Notch receptors. READ MORE

  4. 9. Role of posttranslational modifications in regulation of Notch and transcriptional coactivator mastermind-like 1

    Author : Anita Popko-Scibor; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The Notch signaling is an evolutionary conserved pathway enabling short range cell-cell interactions, crucial for diverse developmental and physiological processes during embryonic and adult life. The Mastermind-like (MAML) family of transcriptional coactivator proteins has been shown to play an essential role in regulation of Notch-mediated transcription. READ MORE

  5. 10. Cognitive function and neurophysiological correlates in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis

    Author : Mathias Sundgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Impaired cognitive function is a frequent consequence of multiple sclerosis (MS). It negatively affects vocational status, treatment adherence, physical independence, competence in activities of daily life, rehabilitation potential, driving safety and quality of life. READ MORE
