1. Fibroblast growth factor-23 and Klotho in bone/mineral and parathyroid disorders
Abstract : Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23) is a novel, bone-produced hormone that regulates renal phosphate (Pi) reabsorption and calcitriol metabolism. Disorders of mineral and bone metabolism, such as autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets (ADHR) and hyperostosis-hyperphosphatemia syndrome (HHS), witness the importance of well-balanced serum levels of FGF23. 2. Cardiovascular disease and adrenergic dysfunction in mild primary hyperparathyroidism
Abstract : Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is associated with cardiovascular morbidity and premature death, but the underlying mechanisms are incompletely understood. The aim of this thesis was to investigate cardiovascular parameters and adrenergic function in mild PHPT compared to healthy controls subjects before and after curative parathyroidectomy (PTX). 3. Early parathyroidectomy in mild primary hyperparathyroidism: Effects on heart and bones
Abstract : There is an ongoing controversy regarding how to take care of patients with mild primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). Some recommend surgical treatment at diagnosis, others just follow-up as long as there is no evidence of disease progression. READ MORE

4. Primary hyperparathyroidism : comorbidity and outcome after parathyroid adenomectomy
Abstract : Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) is associated with increased mortality in certain malignant tumours. Breast cancer is the most common and a shared aetiology has been suggested. In a register-based nested case-control study, we compared breast cancer in patients with and without a previous operation for pHPT. READ MORE

5. Primary Hyperparathyroidism - Aspects on skeletal Involvemnt and PTH levels after Surgery
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate risk factors for fractures in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT), to study the association between preoperative variables and postoperative changes in bone density and to investigate long-term changes and peripheral PTH sensitivity in patients with elevated PTH levels after surgery. 203 pHPT patients were investigated with regard to clinical and biochemical variables and bone density.
