6. Photochemical properties of phytochrome and firefly luciferase chromophores: A theoretical study
Abstract : This licentiate thesis presents computational chemistry studies on photochemical properties of phytochrome and firefly luciferase chromophores.Phytochromes are bilin-containing proteins that based on the ambient light environment regulate a number of physiological and developmental processes in bacteria, cyanobacteria, fungi and plants. 7. Theoretical prediction of ionisation properties of proteins
Abstract : This work emphasises on elaboration of improved theoretical and computational methods for determination of protonation/deprotonation equilibria in proteins. It also aims to contribute for a better understanding on atomic level of ionisation properties of proteins and their role in structure-functional relationship. READ MORE

8. Structural elements involved in protein-mediated proton transfer : Implications from studies of cytochrome c oxidase
Abstract : Proton transfer is one of the most common reactions in biological systems. During energy conversion inside a cell, proton transfer is crucial to maintain an electrochemical proton gradient across the cell membrane. This gradient is in turn used to e.g. READ MORE

9. Vanadate and Peroxovanadate Complexes of Biomedical Relevance : A speciation approach with focus on diabetes
Abstract : Diabetes mellitus is one of the most threatening epidemics of modern times with rapidly increasing incidence. Vanadium and peroxovanadium compounds have been shown to exert insulin–like actions and, in contrast to insulin, are orally applicable. However, problems with side–effects and toxicity remain. 10. Synthesis, properties and applications of chalcogen-containing antioxidants
Abstract : In the first part, the preparation and properties of chalcogen-containing vitamin E analogues are described. The sulfur compound 3,3,4,6,7-pentamethyl-2,3-dihydrobenzo[b]thiophene-5-ol was prepared by two different routes using ionic and radical chemistry. Interesting rearrangements were observed in the two synthetic pathways. READ MORE
