11. Optimal pacing with and implantable pO2 sensor
Abstract : A goal in modern pacemaker technology is to adapt the timing of stimulation to the metabolic demand and to optimize the hemodynamics of the diseased heart. Because the plasma concentration of mixed venous oxygen is a good indicator of workload and circulation, we developed an implantable coulometric blood oxygen sensor to improve the rate adaptation. 12. Global sequence and dispersion of ventricular repolarization: In vivo validation of non-invasive parameters using monophasic action potential mapping technique
Abstract : The purposes are to validate the noninvasive parameters, QT interval, QT dispersion, Tpeak-Tend interval, and the activation recovery time (ART) for estimation of global dispersion of ventricular repolarization (DVR), and to investigate the changes of repolarization sequence and DVR by altered ventricular pacing sites. The material consisted of 12 patients (Study I) and two series healthy pigs with 10 in each (Studies II and III; Studies IV and V). READ MORE

13. The oesophageal route in clinical electrocardiology
Abstract : The subject of this thesis is the clinical use of the oesophageal electrode in electrocardiology. The three areas covered are oesophageal electro- cardiography, the biophysics of transoesophageal atrial stimulation (TAS) and the clinical utility of TAS. The literature is reviewed with respect to these areas. READ MORE

14. Investigation of electrochemical properties and performance of stimulation/sensing electrodes for pacemaker applications
Abstract : People suffering from certain types of arrhythmia may benefit from the implantation of a cardiac pacemaker. Pacemakers artificially stimulate the heart by applying short electrical pulses to the cardiac tissue to restore and maintain a steady heart rhythm. By adjusting the pulse delivery rate the heart is stimulated to beat at desired pace. READ MORE

15. Cardiac involvement in familial amyloidosis with polyneuropathy
Abstract : Familial amyloidosis with polyneuropathy (FAP) is a neuropathic form of heredofamilial systemic amyloidosis. Clusters of patients have been reported predominantly from Portugal, Japan and Sweden. The present study examines the involvement of the heart in individuals with the Swedish variety of FAP. READ MORE
