  1. 6. Moisture Balance in Painted Wood Panelling

    Author : Stefan Hjort; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; moisture transport; numerical simulation; rot; wood; moisture conditions; paint;

    Abstract : Over the last years thousands of houses have been damaged by wood rot in the exterior wood panelling due to excessive moisture conditions. This thesis is about moisture conditions and the way moisture enters and exits painted wood panelling structures. READ MORE

  2. 7. The chemistry of organic iodides under severe nuclear accident conditions in LWRs

    Author : Sabrina Tietze; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic iodides; Wet-filter system scrubber ; Chlorine; Volatile iodine source term; Severe nuclear accident; Cables; Sorption; Containment; Paint; Iodine; LWR; Radiolysis;

    Abstract : For many countries nuclear fission is an important part of their energy portfolio. However, a great concern is the occurrence of nuclear reactor accidents, which can result in the emission of radioactivity into the environment. READ MORE

  3. 8. Inhibition of Aluminium Pigments for Waterborne Coatings

    Author : Philip Karlsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hydrogen evolution; AFM; surfactant; aluminium pigment; polymer; silica stabilisation; water based; adsorption; inhibition; waterborne; printing ink; QCM-D; AAS; reflectometry; encapsulation; paint; metallic pigment; coating; XPS;

    Abstract : Micrometer-sized aluminium flakes for use as pigments in waterborne coatings need protection, since the reaction between aluminium and water causes formation of aluminium hydroxide and hydrogen gas. The aluminium hydroxide destroys the metallic appearance of the pigment flakes and the evolution of hydrogen gas leads to a dangerous pressure build-up in the paint containers. READ MORE

  4. 9. Studies on the barrier properties of exterior wood coatings

    Author : Jan Ekstedt; KTH; []
    Keywords : Coatings; surfactants; water absorption value; EN 927; paint; additives; moisture dynamics; absorption; desorption; artificial weathering; artificial exposure; computerized tomography; MRI.;

    Abstract : Coatings for exterior wood have two basic functions. One isto give an aesthetically acceptable surface appearance andcolour. The other is to provide protection against wooddegradation by microbiological or physical attack. READ MORE

  5. 10. SHAKER ARCHITECTURAL MATERIALS AND CRAFTSMANSHIP

    Author : Erika Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; masonry.; paint; interpretation; Shaker architecture; wood; mortar; conservation; Second Meetinghouse; plaster; The Mount Lebanon Project; authenticity; preservation; Architectural conservation; conservation assessment; Shaker Museum and Library; NARA document; heritage values; lime; feasibility study; craftsmanship; materials analyses; intangible dimensions; Mount Lebanon Shaker Society;

    Abstract : AbstractThis work is an investigation into the state-of-the-art of architectural conservation, from an international and interdisciplinary perspective. It explores issues, methodologies, and tools applicable to heritage resource assessments - from an architectural conservators point of view - and its aim is to generate appropriate approaches, methodologies and tools to holistically assess both the tangible and intangible aspects of significant architecture from the past.
