1. Top Quark Pair Production in ATLAS
Abstract : The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the international particle physics laboratory CERN in Switzerland is currently the most powerful particle accelerator on earth. This thesis presents analyses of proton-proton collisions at the energy √s = 7 TeV, recorded by ATLAS, one of the detectors at the LHC. READ MORE

2. Pair production, vacuum birefringence and radiation reaction in strong field QED
Abstract : In this thesis we consider three QED phenomena in strong electromagnetic fields: Schwinger pair production, vacuum birefringence and radiation reaction. We study electron-positron pair production in a variety of field configurations and, using complex worldline instantons, reveal new insights into the case of fields with lightlike inhomogeneities. 3. From Strange to Charm : Meson production in electron-positron collisions
Abstract : Decays of pseudoscalar mesons into a lepton-antilepton pair are very rare within the Standard Model since they cannot proceed via a single photon process. The C-even neutral mesons can be produced in electron-positron collisions by a two-photon intermediate state. READ MORE

4. Pair production of Higgs bosons in the final state with bottom quarks and τ leptons in the ATLAS experiment : Search results using LHC Run 2 data and prospect studies at the HL-LHC
Abstract : After the discovery of the Higgs boson, the ultimate test of the electroweak symmetry breaking and the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics is to establish evidence of Higgs boson self-coupling, which can be achieved by searching for pair production of Higgs bosons. In addition, many theories beyond the SM predict heavy resonances that could decay into pairs of Higgs bosons. READ MORE

5. Non-Perturbative Quantum Field Theory in Extreme Environments
Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to describe some physical systems which can be treated by non-perturbative methods in quantum field theory. In the thesis we study systems described by quadratic Hamiltonians, possibly extended with an external electromagnetic field and/or with a thermal heat bath. READ MORE
