  1. 1. A few aspects of aircraft noise

    Author : Crispin Dickson; Shafiquzzaman Khan; Mendel Kleiner; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; paired comparison; sorting based paired comparison; sorting algorithms; mergesort; quicksort; aircraft sound synthesis; aircraft noise; sound quality; tonal effects; angle positions; flight conditions; methods of equalization; cognition; Acoustics; Akustik;

    Abstract : A few aspects of aircraft noise were evaluated. These were (i) methods of subjective evaluations, (ii) effects of equalization and (iii) the effects of cognitive aspects.In the first paper, sorting algorithms were used instead of conventional paired comparison method in order to reduce the number of pairs in the evaluation of subjective judgments. 2. 2. Some properties of measures of disagreement and disorder in paired ordinal data

    Author : Hans Högberg; Elisabeth Svensson; Sture Holm; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; agreement; augmented ranks; categorical data; disorder; jackknife; paired ordinal data; rating scales; sample size; sampling distribution; simulation; U-statistics; variance; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; Statistics; Statistik; Statistics; Statistik;

    Abstract : The measures studied in this thesis were a measure of disorder, D, and a measure of the individual part of the disagreement, the measure of relative rank variance, RV, proposed by Svensson in 1993. The measure of disorder is a useful measure of order consistency in paired assessments of scales with a different number of possible values. READ MORE

  3. 3. Drum sound from floor coverings - objective and subjective assessment

    Author : Ann-Charlotte Johansson; Teknisk akustik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; vakuumteknik; vibrationer; akustik; hydraulik; Maskinteknik; vacuum technology; vibration and acoustic engineering; hydraulics; acoustic standard; Mechanical engineering; tapping machine; veneer flooring; parquet flooring; binaural recording; foot impact; loudness; sound quality; listening test; paired comparisons; walking sound; drum sound; building acoustics; psychoacoustics; laminate flooring;

    Abstract : Drum sound is the sound produced when an object, such as a foot, hits the flooring in the room in which the receiving ear is located. Drum sound has attracted interest in recent years, particularly due to an increased use of thin floating floor constructions, such as veneer or laminate flooring, which can produce loud and sharp walking sound. 4. 4. New manifestations of the practice-theory dilemma – consequences of ‘the practice turn’ in teacher education

    Author : Sandra Jederud; Per Lindqvist; Johannes Rytzler; Maria Gustavsson; Mälardalens universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; specific practice schools; paired practicum; work-integrated teacher education; spectator knowledge; participant knowledge; boundary crossing; Didactics; didaktik;

    Abstract : This thesis comprises four studies that concern the specific part of practicum  within teacher education, its relation to the university-based components and how new organizational ideas entail different consequences for student teachers’ opportunities for learning the profession. The overall purpose is to analyze policies related to learning in practice and shed light on what implications are involved when reorganizing Swedish teacher education within the ‘practice turn’. 5. 5. Evolution of eyes: Pax, gene duplications & morphology

    Author : Karin Nordström; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; animal morphology; Djurs anatomi och morfologi; Animal anatomy; tetraploidization; planula; phototransduction; pax; paired domain; mutagenesis; cnidaria; eye evolution;

    Abstract : During the course of evolution animal complexity and diversity is generated. The last couple of years it has become increasingly clear that morphologically diverse animals share a great deal of their genomic contents, and it must be the expression of regulatory genes in new setting, rather than the generation of new genes, that are fundamental for the generation of diversity.
