  1. 1. Land-atmosphere interaction of a subarctic palsa mire

    University dissertation from GeoBiosphere Science Centre, Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystems Analysis, Lund University, Sölvegatan 12, 223 62, Lund, Sweden

    Author : Marcin Jackowicz-Korczynski; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2009]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; eddy covariance; chamber; methnaol; isoprene; nonmethane hydrocarbons; methane; carbon dioxide; carbon; mire; permafrost; subarctic; palsa; greenhouse gas;

    Abstract : The main objective of this thesis was to quantitatively estimate the gaseous exchange of carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) between a subarctic wetland ecosystem and the atmosphere. Additionally some initial estimates of the carbon input to the atmosphere of nonmethane hydrocarbons (NMHCs) were also obtained by combining different techniques in a joint setting. READ MORE

  2. 2. Palsa Growth and Decay in Northern Sweden Climatic and Environmental Controls

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Frieda S. Zuidhoff; Uppsala universitet.; [2003]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; ground thermal properties; palsas; permafrost degradation; peat porosity; Sweden; vegetation.; Geovetenskap; NATURAL SCIENCES Earth sciences; NATURVETENSKAP Geovetenskap; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Abstract : This thesis outlines the development and decay of palsas in northern Sweden in relation to climatic and environmental factors. Palsas were investigated on morphology, vegetation, peat porosity, ground temperature and local climate in four bogs situated on a north-south gradient in northern Sweden. READ MORE

  3. 3. Subarctic ecosystem responses to climate, catchment and permafrost dynamics in the Holocene

    University dissertation from Department of Geology, Lund University

    Author : Ulla Kokfelt; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2009]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; subarctic Sweden; palsa mire development; peat; permafrost history; carbon and nutrient cycling; lake sediments;

    Abstract : This thesis assesses aspects of the wetland development, permafrost dynamics and associated changes in carbon and nutrient cycling of the Stordalen Mire in northern Sweden. Various ecological and biogeochemical analyses of one peat and two lake sediment sequences were conducted, including analyses of organic matter and carbonate content, mosses, diatoms, testate amoebae, pigments, carbon and nitrogen and their stable isotopes, near infrared spectroscopy and biogenic silica. 4. 4. A song of ice and mud Interactions of microbes with roots, fauna and carbon in warming permafrost-affected soils

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå University

    Author : Sylvain Monteux; Umeå universitet.; [2018]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microbial communities; permafrost; functional limitations; rhizosphere; SOM decomposition; soil fauna; climate change; carbon dioxide;

    Abstract : Permafrost-affected soils store a large quantity of soil organic matter (SOM) – ca. half of worldwide soil carbon – and currently undergo rapid and severe warming due to climate change. READ MORE
