11. Regulation of docking and priming in pancreatic α- and β-cells
Abstract : The secretion of islet hormones from endocrine cells of the pancreas plays vital roles in maintaining glucose homeostasis. Dysfunction of these cells leads to diabetes, a devastating metabolic disorder affecting millions worldwide, but underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. READ MORE

12. Roles of voltage-gated Ca2+ channel subunits in pancreatic β cells
Abstract : Hallmarks of type 2 diabetes (T2D) include elevated blood glucose and free fatty acids (FFAs) as a result of impaired β cell insulin secretion and decreased β cell mass. The glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) in β cells is triggered by depolarization-evoked Ca2+ entry through voltage-gated Ca2+ (CaV) channels. READ MORE

13. The interplay of ions in the stimulation of the pancreatic -cell
Abstract : Glucose stimulation of insulin release is mediated by depolarisation of the pancreatic β-cells with accompanying entry of Ca2+ through voltage-dependent channels. An important feature of the glucose-induced depolarisation is its rhythmicity causing oscillations of the cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i), which trigger pulsatile release of insulin. 14. Nature of Large Vesicle Exocytosis in Pancreatic β-cells: Release of ATP and GABA
Abstract : Several high resolution electrophysiological techniques such as measurements of cell membrane capacitance and amperometry are used to detect exocytotic events. A novel method was developed in this study based on the expression of P2X2 receptor channel in secreting cells. READ MORE

15. Environmental input to the pancreatic β-cells - the role of mechanosensitive and other ion channels
Abstract : Compound input from genetic predisposition, environmental factors and lifestyle lead to beta-cell dysfunction which initiates the development of type 2 diabetes. Understanding the linkage between the environmental input and gene regulatory pathways controlling beta-cell function is key for developing novel therapies against T2D. READ MORE
