21. Strategies for Reduced Energy Use and Cost in Pulp and Paper Mills by Energy Integration of the Paper Drying Process
Abstract : The cost of energy for drying paper is substantial for the pulp and paper industry, and studies of various strategies for energy cost reductions such as increased energy efficiency, increased heat recovery from the exhaust drying air and reduced cost of the process heat are presented in this thesis. The energy use and cost studies were performed using a block-model based simulation tool developed for this specific purpose. READ MORE

22. Whiteness and Fluorescence in Layered Paper and Board : Perception and Optical Modelling
Abstract : This thesis is about modelling and predicting the perceived whiteness of plain paper from the paper composition, including fluorescent whitening agents. This involves psychophysical modelling of perceived whiteness from measurable light reflectance properties, and physical modelling of light scattering and fluorescence from the paper composition. 24. Reverse Logistics Systems : an Interorganisational Perspective, Focusing on Paper Recycling
Abstract : The purpose of the study is to describe and analyse reverse logistics systems. The study is a qualitative case study, and the main case comprise three actors: a supplier of recycled paper; their customer, the paper mill, and the transport provider linking the customer and supplier. Reference cases are recycling electronics and recycling cars. READ MORE

25. Formation and properties of polyelectrolyte multilayers on wood fibres : influence on paper strength and fibre wettability
Abstract : The work in this licentiate thesis examines the adsorption of polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEM) onto wood fibres as a new way to influence the properties of the fibre surfaces and hence the fibres. Fundamental aspects of PEM formation on wood fibres have been studied, and discussed in terms of paper strength and wood fibre wettability. READ MORE
