  1. 1. Silicon-based Photonic Devices : Design, Fabrication and Characterization

    Author : Ziyang Zhang; Min Qiu; Thomas Koch; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photonic Devices; Silicon Photonics; Parallel Computation; Nanofabrication; Electron Beam Lithography; Optical Characterisation; Optics; Optik;

    Abstract : The field of Information and Communication Technologies is witnessing a development speed unprecedented in history. Moore’s law proves that the processor speed and memory size are roughly doubling each 18 months, which is expected to continue in the next decade. READ MORE

  2. 2. Crack-junctions : Bridging the gap between nano electronics and giga manufacturing

    Author : Valentin Dubois; Göran Stemme; Christofer Hierold; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nanotechnology; nanoelectronics; nanogap electrodes; molecular electronics; nanoplasmonics; crack-junctions; break junctions; nanowires; parallel fabrication; lithography; fracture; crack; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Obtaining both nanometer precision of patterning and parallel fabrication on wafer-scale is currently not possible in conventional fabrication schemes. Just as we are looking beyond semiconductor technologies for next-generation electronics and photonics, our efforts turn to new ways of producing electronic and photonic interfaces with the nanoscale. Abstract : Spintronics is a scientific domain focusing on utilizing electron spin for information processing. This is the element that distinguishes it from electronics, which only utilizes the charge of electrons. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mode and Polarization Control in VCSELs using Surface Structures

    Author : Åsa Haglund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; single mode; dynamics; surface relief; Semiconductor laser; polarization; vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser; sub-wavelength grating; fabrication;

    Abstract : The vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) is a novel, low-cost light source with many attractive performance characteristics, such as low operating current, circular output beam, and high modulation bandwidth at low currents. This together with its easy integration into two-dimensional arrays has made it an established transmitter in short-distance single and parallel fiber-optical links, and new applications are continuously arising. 5. 5. Silicon Nanopore Arrays : Fabrication and Applications for DNA Sensing

    Author : Miao Zhang; Jan Linnros; Meni Wanunu; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nanopore; array; electrochemical etching; DNA; optics; thermophoresis;

    Abstract : Nanopore biomolecule sensing and sequencing has emerged as a simple but powerful tool for single molecule studies over the past two decades. By elec- trophoretically driving single molecules through a nanometer-sized pore, often sitting in an insulating membrane that separates two buffer solutions, ionic current blockades can be detected to reveal rich information of the molecules, such as DNA length, protein size and conformation, even nucleic acid se- quence.
