6. Pathogenic Neisseria : Single cell motility, multicellular dynamics and antimicrobial susceptibility
Abstract : Neisseria meningitidis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae can colonize humans without causing any symptoms. However, gonorrhea and invasive meningococcal disease are serious health concerns. An essential virulence factor for neisserial adhesion to host cells, twitching motility and microcolony formation/aggregation is the retractile type IV pili (Tfp). READ MORE

7. Transcription Associated Recombination in Mammalian Cells
Abstract : There is increasing evidence that the movement of the transcription machinery through DNA has profound effects on the genomic stability. One such example is a phenomenon known as Transcription Associated Recombination (TAR). Transcription enhances recombination levels to a high degree in all organisms studied, from bacteria to mammals. READ MORE

8. Regulators of Membrane Fluidity
Abstract : Caenorhabditis elegans PAQR-2 (a homolog of the mammalian AdipoR1 and AdipoR2 proteins) and IGLR-2 (homolog of the mammalian LRIG proteins) form a complex at the plasma membrane that regulates fatty acid desaturation to protect against saturated fatty acid-induced membrane rigidification. Maintenance of membrane homeostasis is fundamental for most cellular processes and, given its importance, robust regulatory mechanisms must exist that adjust lipid composition to compensate for dietary variation. 9. Linking transcription to DNA replication in mammalian mitochondria
Abstract : Most of the adenosine phosphate (ATP) used to drive cellular processes is produced through oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS). At the heart of this process is the electron transport chain, which contains a number of protein complexes located in the inner membrane of mitochondria. READ MORE

10. Interplay of chromatin remodeling, transcriptional regulation, and nuclear organization
Abstract : Transcription is regulated on different levels to ensure that genes are expressed at the correct time and in the amounts required. At the chromatin level, DNA is wound onto histone proteins, forming nucleosomes that influence accessibility of DNA elements. READ MORE
