7. A sub-5 fs 100 TW optical parametric synthesizer
Abstract : State-of-the-art ultrashort light sources in the visible and near-infrared spectral regions provide direct access to the femtosecond realm, thereby enabling understanding and control of electronic processes within matter. On the other hand, ultra-intense light pulses lead to the emergence of relativistic electron motion and many related phenomena, such as electron & ion acceleration and high-order harmonic generation in plasmas. 8. Optical Parametric Devices in Periodically Poled LiTaO3
Abstract : Optical parametric frequency conversion based on quasi phase matching (QPM) in nonlinear optical crystals is a powerful technique for generating coherent radiation in wavelength ranges spanning from the mid-infrared (mid-IR) to the blue, displaying low thermal load and high efficiency. This thesis shows how QPM in one- (1D) or two-dimensional (2D) lattices can be employed to engineer novel devices for parametric downconversion in the IR, af-fording freedom in designing both spectral and angular properties of the parametric output. 9. Optical Transmission Systems Based on Phase-Sensitive Amplifiers
Abstract : The capacity and reach of today's long-haul fiber optical communication systems is limited by amplifier noise and fiber nonlinearities. Conventional, phase-insensitiveamplifiers (PIAs), have a quantum limited noise figure (NF) of 3 dB at high gain, meaning that with a shot-noise limited input signal the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)is degraded by at least 3 dB. 10. Degenerate and nondegenerate Josephson parametric oscillators for quantum information applications
Abstract : Parametric oscillations are well studied phenomena, with applications in amplification, quantum optics, and quantum information processing. They can occur as a parameter of a system, such as the resonant frequency, is being modulated or “pumped” by an external field. READ MORE
