  1. 1. Ecology and evolution in a host-parasitoid system : Host search, immune responses and parasitoid virulence

    Author : Lisa Fors; Peter Hambäck; Wertheim Bregje; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Host-parasitoid interactions; Plant-herbivore interactions; Host search; Volatiles; Pheromones; Geographic variation; Cellular defence; Melanisation; Encapsulation; Asecodes; Galerucella; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Abstract : In host-parasitoid systems, there is a continuous coevolutionary arms race where each species imposes a strong selection pressure on the other. The host needs to develop defence strategies in order to escape parasitism and the parasitoid must evolve counter-defence strategies in order to overcome the host’s immune defence and successfully reproduce. 2. 2. Coevolution and molecular background of species interactions in geographic mosaics

    Author : Xuyue Yang; Peter A. Hambäck; Michael R. Strand; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transcriptomics; population genetics; insect immunology; parasitoid; genome assembly; natural selection; Ecology and Evolution; ekologi och evolution;

    Abstract : In complex food webs, species often interact with each other indirectly through mediating species. As a result of geographic mosaic of coevolution, such interactions are often evolutionarily unstable and the traits governing the interaction sometimes vary over time. READ MORE

  3. 3. From Parasitoids to Gall Inducers and Inquilines : Morphological Evolution in Cynipoid Wasps

    Author : Hege Vårdal; Fredrik Ronquist; Göran Sahlén; Ulf Jondelius; Nunzio Isidoro; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; gall inducer; parasitoid; inquiline; gall induction; morphology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : One of the large lineages of parasitic wasps, the Cynipoidea, exhibits three distinctly different life modes. Slightly more than half of the about 3000 species are parasitoids in insect larvae, whereas the remaining species are associated with plants, either as gall inducers or as inquilines (guests feeding on plant tissue in galls). 4. 4. The spatial and temporal dynamics of plant-animal interactions in the forest herb Actaea spicata

    Author : Hugo von Zeipel; Johan Ehrlén; Ove Eriksson; Saskya van Nouhuys; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Eupithecia immundata; parasitoid; rodent; seed predation; dispersal; recruitment; multitrophic; metapopulation; trophic cascades; community complexity; Biology; Biologi; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Abstract : Landscape effects on species performance currently receives much attention. Habitat loss and fragmentation are considered major threats to species diversity. Deciduous forests in southern Sweden are previous wooded pastures that have become species-rich communities appearing as islands in agricultural landscapes, varying in species composition. READ MORE

  5. 5. Ecology of parasitoids and their hosts in oilseed rape fields

    Author : Josef Berger; Biodiversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; parasitoids; herbivores; oilseed rape; pollen beetle; cabbage stem weevil; parasitoid community; niche separation; landscape scale; community composition; landscape configuration; Species abundance distribution SAD models; dispersal; metacommunity;

    Abstract : Oilseed rape fields are a very common crop in the agricultural landscape of southern Sweden, and they can harbour surprisingly many insect species. Some of them are herbivores that feed on various parts of the oilseed rape plant, others are natural enemies of the herbivores, and even more species are tourists from the surrounding landscape.
