  1. 1. New modifiers of insulin signalling identified by interaction screens with ASNA-1 in C. elegans

    Author : Balasubramanian Natarajan; Peter Naredi; Richard Padgett; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Insulin; C. elegans; ASNA1; Cisplatin; GRP94; unfolded protein response; SMN1; Developmental Biology; miljömedicinsk utvecklingsbiologi;

    Abstract : Background: Insulin is a hormone released by the pancreatic beta cells in response to elevated levels of nutrients in the blood. Insulin triggers the uptake of glucose, fatty acids and amino acids into the liver, adipose tissue and muscles. READ MORE

  2. 2. Studies on molecular properties and functional regulation of terminal leukotriene C4 synthases and cysteinyl-leukotriene receptor signalling in human endothelium

    Author : Oliver Schröder; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The transformation of the unstable intermediate leukotriene (LT) A4 into the glutathione conjugate LTC4, the parent compound of LTD4 and LTE4, is catalysed by leukotriene C4 synthase (LTC4S) as well as microsomal glutathione S-transferase type 2 (MGST2) and type 3 (MGST3). Together, these eicosanoids also known as cysteinyl leukotrienes (cys-LT) are key mediators of immediate hypersensitivity reactions. READ MORE

  3. 3. Thrombin/ADP-induced platelet activation and drug intervention

    Author : Nylander Sven; Stan Heptinstall; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Blood platelets are key players in haemostasis, the system that maintains an intact circulation. Circulating platelets are constantly on guard for vessel wall injury and will momentarily adhere to exposed subendothelial proteins, mainly collagens, at site of the injury. READ MORE

  4. 4. Aphanomyces root rot in pea : genomic insights into pathogen diversity and disease resistance

    Author : Carol Kälin; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The cultivation of vining pea (Pisum sativum) faces significant challenges due to root rot, primarily caused by Aphanomyces euteiches, a soil-borne oomycete pathogen. Pea cultivars resistant to aphanomyces root rot (ARR) are currently lacking and common mitigation methods include crop rotation and avoidance of highly infested fields. READ MORE

  5. 5. Studies of leukotriene C4 synthase isoenzymes and the cysteinyl leukotrine receptors in human endothelial- and mast cells

    Author : Mattias Sjöström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Leukotriene (LT) C4, the parent compound of LTD4 and LTE4, is generated when LTA4 is conjugated with GSH by either leukotriene C4 synthase (LTC4S) or microsomal GSH S-transferase (MGST) type 2 or 3. Together these lipid mediators cause contractions particularly in airway smooth muscle and the microcirculation, leading to bronchconstriction, plasma extravasation and edema formation as well as increased mucus secretion from epithelial cells and recruitment of inflammatory cells.
