  1. 6. Experiments on Laser-Based Particle Acceleration : Beams of Energetic Electrons and Protons

    Author : Kristoffer Svensson; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; laser; plasma; acceleration; electrons; protons; Fysicumarkivet A:2016:Svensson;

    Abstract : This thesis describes experiments involving laser-plasma-based acceleration of electrons and protons, using the techniques of laser wakefield acceleration (LWFA) and target normal sheath acceleration (TNSA). By using extremely high accelerating field strengths, up to the order of TV m-1, it is possible to reach high kinetic particle energies over very short distances. READ MORE

  2. 7. Laser-driven particle acceleration - Experimental investigations

    Author : Filip Lindau; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis describes experimental studies of laser-driven particle acceleration. With the focused intensity of today’s high-power lasers exceeding 10^18 W/cm2,extremely high-gradient accelerators are possible. READ MORE

  3. 8. Laser-Produced Plasmas for Particle Acceleration

    Author : Kristoffer Svensson; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis describes experimental studies that aim to stabilise and optimise laser-based particle accelerators. The technique is called laser wakefield acceleration, where electric fields of the order of 102 GV/m accelerate electrons to high energies (⇠102 MeV) over mm-distances in laser-produced plasmas. 4. 9. Extreme Electron Beams and Brilliant X-rays : Generation, Manipulation and Characterization of Relativistic Electron Beams for and from Plasma-Based Accelerators

    Author : Jonas Björklund Svensson; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; laser; plasma; wakefield; acceleration; accelerator; relativistic; electrons; x-rays; ultra-fast; betatron; laser-wakefield acceleration; plasma-wakefield acceleration; Fysicumarkivet A:2020:Björklund;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on work done by the author on the development of plasma-based electron accelerators driven by ultra-intense laser pulses and dense electron bunches. Plasma based accelerators have several benefits, such as accelerating fields around 1000 times stronger than in “conventional” radio-frequency accelerators, which can allow for shrinking the overall footprint of the accelerator. 5. 10. Modelling of laser plasma interaction with applications to particle acceleration and radiation generation

    Author : Benjamin Svedung Wettervik; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; plasma; ion acceleration; continuum methods; electron wakefield acceleration; raditation generation; coherent X-ray pulses; Vlasov-Maxwell equations;

    Abstract : The development of laser systems with ultra-high intensities has allowed the study of the relativistic interaction of laser light and ionized matter, plasmas, as well as opened up prospects for compact particle accelerators, generation of high intensity X-ray, XUV radiation, and probing QED-effects, which are present in the high intensity regime. To describe laser matter interaction, it is necessary to self-consistently account for the paths of a large number of particles and the corresponding electromagnetic fields, with the addition of stochastic effects at high laser intensities.
