  1. 1. Particle Emissions from Ships

    Author : Maria Zetterdahl; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURAL SCIENCES; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LNG; marine fuel; fuel sulphur content; particle emission; sulphur emission control area; aromatics; SECA; heavy fuel oil; marine diesel oil; liquefied natural gas; ship emission;

    Abstract : Since 1st of January 2015 ships operating in sulphur emission control areas (SECAs) have to use marine fuels with a fuel sulphur content less than 0.1 %m/m. This regulation forces the ship owners to make a fuel shift and use low-sulphur marine fuel oils, use alternative fuels or use scrubbers on-board their ships. READ MORE

  2. 2. Radio emission from supernovae

    Author : Esha Kundu; Peter Lundqvist; Claes Fransson; Stephen Reynolds; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; supernovae; radio emission; hydrodynamical simulation; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the modeling of radio and X-ray emissions from supernova (SN) shock fronts and hydrodynamical simulations of SN-circumstellar medium (CSM) interaction. The interaction of SN ejecta with the CSM drives a strong shock wave into the CSM. READ MORE

  3. 3. Electronic excitation, luminescence and particle emission : Studying ion-induced phenomena in ToF-MEIS

    Author : Svenja Lohmann; Daniel Primetzhofer; Friedrich Aumayr; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; TOF-MEIS; ion beam analysis; deep UV; desorption; electronic sputtering; TiN;

    Abstract : Medium energy ion scattering (MEIS) is an experimental technique for the high-resolution depth profiling of thin films. Commonly, ions with energies between several ten to a few hundred keV are employed as probes, and backscattered particles are detected. READ MORE

  4. 4. Particle Characterization in the Exhaust Devices of Direct Injection Engines

    Author : Arun Prasath Karuppasamy; Anders Christiansen Erlandsson; Hanna Bernemyr; Alexander Bergmann; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Particle number; Particle size distribution; turbocharger; SCR; Exhaust after-treatment system; Particle dilution and conditioning; Partikelantal; storleksfördelning av partiklar; turboladdare; SCR; efterbehandlingssystem; avgasbehandlingssystem; partikelspädning och partikelanpassad mätmetod; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion;

    Abstract : Minimizing pollutants are of utmost importance to ensure sustainability in transportation. Particle emissions from internal combustion engines are especially harmful to human health, while also contributing to global warming. READ MORE

  5. 5. Remote Measurements of Gas and Particulate Matter Emissions from Individual Ships

    Author : Jörg Beecken; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : pollution; compliance monitoring; shipping; ship emission; particle emissions; identification of polluting ships; emission factors;

    Abstract : Shipping significantly contributes to the world's anthropogenic emissions of sulfur, nitrogen species and particulate matter. These species affect the global radiative forcing as well as local acidification, eutrophication and human health. READ MORE
