  1. 1. Phase Doppler Anemometry in Unsteady Two-Phase Flow: A Novel Post-Processing Data Algorithm

    Author : Tobias Bergenblock; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Circulating fluidized bed; Particle groups; Phase Doppler anemometry; Eulerian Lagrangian simulation; Particle flow measurements; Two-phase flow;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a novel method to estimate particle fluctuations in unsteady two-phase flow using phase Doppler anemometry (PDA). A comprehensive derivation and asuccessful validation of a PDA data post-processing algorithm are given. READ MORE

  2. 2. Polyethylene – metal oxide particle nanocomposites for future HVDC cable insulation : From interface tailoring to designed performance

    Author : Dongming Liu; Ulf Gedde; Mikael Hedenqvist; Richard Olsson; Linda Schadler; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HVDC; electrical insulation; core-shell nanoparticles; surface modification; silane chemistry; nanocomposites; polyethylene; adsorption; long-term stability; interface; particle dispersion; cavitation; conductivity; HVDC; elektrisk isolation; ytmodifiering; silankemi; nanokompositer; polyeten; adsorption; långtidsstabilitet; ytskikt; partikeldispergering; kavitation; ledningsförmåga; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) nanocomposites containing metal oxide nanoparticles are considered as promising candidates for insulating materials in future high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) cables. The significant improvement in dielectric properties compared with unfilled polymer is attributed to the large and active interface between the nanoparticles and the polymer. READ MORE

  3. 3. Health-related aerosol particle studies, respiratory tract deposition and indoor source identification

    Author : Jakob Löndahl; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aerosol particle; health; ultrafine particles; nanoparticle; deposition; respiratory tract; Fysicumarkivet A:000;

    Abstract : Aerosol particles have, since Classical Antiquity, been linked to adverse effects on human health. It is estimated that the particles in urban air pollution causes 100 000 deaths in Europe each year, whereof 5 000 in Sweden. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the Agglomeration of Particles in Exhaust Gases

    Author : Ghulam Majal; Mihai Mihaescu; Mats Åbom; Mikael Karlsson; Lisa Prahl Wittberg; Henrik Ström; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Multiphase flow; DES; particulate matter; exhaust after treatment; particle agglomeration; Lagrangian particle tracking; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : Particulate emissions from road transportation are known to have an adverse impact on human health as well the environment. As the effects become more palpable, stricter legislation have been proposed by regulating bodies. READ MORE

  5. 5. Surface complexation in natural particle suspensions

    Author : Qing Du; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry of Interfaces; Gränsytors kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis is a summary of our studies on (i) the proton and copper adsorption at aqueous illite surfaces, (ii) the proton and copper complexation of humic substances (fulvic acid FA and humic acid HA), (iii) the interaction between illite and fulvic acid, and (iv) the copper complexation behaviors in illite-FA bi-complexant systems. These particular studies were designed to help us develop a framework for modelling heavy metal complexation/adsorption mechanisms at natural particle surfaces. READ MORE
