  1. 1. Approaches to particle acceleration in intense laser-matter interaction

    Author : Joel Magnusson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; particle-in-cell; nonlinear dynamics; laser; plasma; laser-matter interaction; particle acceleration;

    Abstract : In the interaction of ultra-intense laser fields with matter, the target is rapidly ionized and a plasma is formed. The ability of a plasma to sustain acceleration gradients, orders of magnitude larger than achievable with conventional accelerators, has led to a great interest in laser-driven plasma-based particle acceleration and radiation generation, with applications in materials science, biology and medicine. 2. 2. Rosetta Observations of Plasma and Dust at Comet 67P

    Author : Fredrik Leffe Johansson; Anders Eriksson; Jan-Erik Wahlund; Nicolas André; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Rosetta; Comets; Plasma; Langmuir Probes; Dust; Spacecraft-plasma interaction; Electrostatic Probes; Rosetta; kometer; plasma; stoft; rymdfarkost-plasma växelverkan; Fysik med inriktning mot rymd- och plasmafysik; Physics with specialization in Space and Plasma Physics;

    Abstract : In-situ observations of cometary plasma are not made because they are easy. The historic ESA Rosetta mission was launched in 2004 and traversed space for ten years before arriving at comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, which it studied in unprecedented detail for two years. READ MORE

    Abstract : In the interaction of ultra-intense laser fields with matter, the target is rapidly ionized and a plasma is formed. The ability of a plasma to sustain acceleration gradients, orders of magnitude larger than achievable with conventional accelerators, has led to a great interest in laser-driven plasma-based particle and radiation sources, with applications in materials science, biology and medicine. 4. 4. Radiation in simulations of high intensity laser-matter interaction

    Author : Erik Karl Wallstén Wallin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; plasma; nonlinear dynamics; particle-in-cell; Manley-Rowe; radiation reaction; synchrotron radiation;

    Abstract : We consider electromagnetic waves propagating in plasmas, with two main themes covered. First nonlinear plasma theory and wave-wave interaction. Here a wave-wave symmetry, the Manley-Rowe relations, is used as a method of determining the physicality of modified plasma fluid equations. READ MORE

  5. 5. Pushing methods for plasma simulations into the QED regime

    Author : Erik Karl Wallstén Wallin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LWFA; nonlinear dynamics; plasma; Manley-Rowe; particle-in-cell; synchrotron radiation; radiation reaction;

    Abstract : The interaction between a super-intense laser pulse, with intensity up to 10²² W/cm², and a plasma opens new regimes of physics, with new questions and more demand on existing numerical tools. Relativistic and quantum effects which are negligible for lower laser intensities become important and must be properly modelled to generate reliable predictions. READ MORE
