  1. 11. Collisional effects on electrostatic shock waves and heating in laser-generated plasmas

    Author : Andréas Sundström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; plasma physics; inverse Bremsstrahlung; warm dense matter; binary collisions; electrostatic shocks; laser-plasmas;

    Abstract : Electrostatic shock waves are associated with an electrostatic field structure propagating at supersonic speed through laboratory or astrophysical plasmas. Shock ion acceleration schemes, based on the strong electrostatic field in the shock structure, show promising potential due to the narrow energy spread of accelerated ions – which can be applied in plasma diagnostics, the generation of warm dense matter or medical purposes. Abstract : This thesis is based on work done by the author on the development of laser wakefield accelerators.Wakefield acceleration in plasmas is a promising technique to provide the next generation of accelerating structures and particle beams. READ MORE

  4. 14. A Simulation Approach to High-Frequency Plasma Waves

    Author : Etienne Koen; Tomas Karlsson; Orsolya Ferencz; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Electrostatic waves in the form of Broadband Electrostatic Noise (BEN) have been observed in the Earth's auroral region associated with high geomagnetic activity. This broad frequency spectrum consists of three electrostatic modes, namely electron plasma, electron acoustic and beam-driven modes. READ MORE

  5. 15. Avian antibodies applied in particle enhanced turbidimetric immunoassay : Developement of serum/plasma calprotectin immunoassay and its clinical performance as a marker for bacterial infections

    Author : Tom Nilsen; Anders Larsson; Bjørn Steen Skålhegg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Sepsis; avian antibodies; calprotectin antigen; particle enhanced turbidimetric immunoassay.; Clinical Chemistry; Klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : Calprotectin is a cytosolic protein in the granulocytes, consisting of S100A8 and S100A9. On the site of inflammation, the neutrophils release the cytosol as an inflammatory response. The circulating calprotectin concentration increases and can therefore be used as marker for neutrophil activation and inflammation. READ MORE
