  1. 16. Acoustic Standing Wave Manipulation of Particles and Cells in Microfluidic Chips

    Author : Andreas Lenshof; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; acoustic particle manipulation; separation; ultrasound; cell handling; particle handling; lab on a chip; Microsystem technology; microfluidics; standing waves;

    Abstract : The rise of MEMS and µTAS techniques has created a whole new family of microfluidic devices for a wide range of chemical and biomedical analyses to be performed on small Lab-on-a-chip platforms. The operations often include small samples of particle or cell suspensions on which separation, mixing, trapping or sorting is performed. READ MORE

  2. 17. Development and simulated observations of the Jovian Neutrals Analyzer

    Author : Angèle Pontoni; Manabu Shimoyama; Mats Holmström; Ove Andersson; Andrew Yau; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; space instrumentation; space physics; Ganymede; Jupiter; fysik; Physics; rymd- och plasmafysik; Space and Plasma Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the development of the Jovian Neutrals Analyzer (JNA) for the Jupiter ICy moons Explorer (JUICE) mission to Jupiter, planned to launch in 2023. Jupiter, the largest planet in the Solar System, orbits the Sun at five times the distance from the Earth to the Sun, accompanied by dozens of moons, rings, and the largest object in the SolarSystem: the Jovian magnetosphere. 3. 18. Numerical modeling of auroral processes

    Author : Jörgen Vedin; Kjell Rönnmark; Robert Lysak; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; space plasma physics; auroral acceleration region; auroral current circuit; Alfvén waves; parallel electric fields; equation of state; fluid simulation; PIC simulation; Space physics; Rymdfysik;

    Abstract : One of the most conspicuous problems in space physics for the last decades has been to theoretically describe how the large parallel electric fields on auroral field lines can be generated. There is strong observational evidence of such electric fields, and stationary theory supports the need for electric fields accelerating electrons to the ionosphere where they generate auroras. 4. 19. MHD Stability and Confinement of Plasmas in a Single Mirror Cell

    Author : Natalia Savenko; Olov Ågren; Per Helander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering physics; MHD; plasma confinement; magnetic mirror; adiabatic particle motion; adiabatic invariants; Teknisk fysik; Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : Thermonuclear fusion is a promising energy source for the future. If an economically efficient thermonuclear reactor would be built it has to be a cheap, safe, and highly productive electric power plant, or, a heating plant. READ MORE

  5. 20. Interaction of Ultrashort X-ray Pulses with Material

    Author : Magnus Bergh; Janos Hajdu; Andrea Cavalleri; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; free-electron laser; dense plasma; X-ray; radiation damage; laser physics; nano-plasma; Molecular Dynamics; Molecular biophysics; Molekylär biofysik;

    Abstract : Radiation damage limits the resolution in imaging experiments. Damage is caused by energy deposited into the sample during exposure. Ultrashort and extremely bright X-ray pulses from free-electron lasers (FELs) offer the possibility to outrun key damage processes, and temporarily improve radiation tolerance. READ MORE
