  1. 21. Searches for Dark Matter and Large Extra Dimensions in Monojet Final States with the ATLAS Experiment

    Author : Olof Lundberg; Christophe Clement; Shahram Rahatlou; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; particle physics; bsm; gravity; extra dimensions; dark matter; ATLAS; LHC; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis presents searches for evidence for Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) and Extra Dimensions in proton-proton collisions recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The WIMP is one of the main candidates to constitute the particle content of Dark Matter. READ MORE

  2. 22. Tracking Chambers with Two-Dimensional Readout used for Extraction of Particle Production Ratios in High Multiplicity Pb+Pb Collisions at 158 A GeV

    Author : Tomas Svensson; Fysiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heavy-ion collisions; position resolution; wire chamber pixel readout; pad readout; tracking; multi-step avalanche chamber; Fysik; Physics; particle ratios;

    Abstract : Heavy-ion collisions at high energies calls for new technical solutions to cope with the very high multiplicities of produced particles. In this thesis the design and development of two types of tracking chambers for high multiplicity environments are presented. READ MORE

  3. 23. Measurements of luminosity and a search for dark matter in the ATLAS experiment

    Author : Patrawan Pasuwan; Sara Strandberg; Christophe Clement; Erin O'Sullivan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; particle physics; ATLAS; luminosity; track counting; dark matter; simplified model; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis presents contributions to the luminosity measurement from the data recorded by the ATLAS detector in 2017 using a track-counting technique, as well as a search for dark matter in the ATLAS experiment using 139 fb-1 of √s = 13 TeV pp collision data delivered by the LHC from 2015 to 2018. Track-counting luminosity measurements in low-luminosity operations are performed to study the effect of low collision rates on luminosity determination. READ MORE

  4. 24. Search for Stop Using the ATLAS Detector and Performance Analysis of the Tile Calorimeter with Muons from W Decays

    Author : Stefio Yosse Andrean; Christophe Clement; Joakim Edsjö; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; particle physics; standard model; bsm; supersymmetry; stop; calorimeter; ATLAS; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a search for the supersymmetric partner of the top quark in the final state with one lepton. The search focuses especially in the region of the parameter space where the 2-body decay dominates. The analysis is performed using LHC full Run 2 data at √s = 13 TeV as recorded by the ATLAS detector. READ MORE

  5. 25. Extending the observational reach of core-collapse supernovae for IceCube using high-energy neutrinos

    Author : Nora Valtonen-Mattila; Erin O'Sullivan; Timothy Linden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neutrino physics; Neutrino astrophysics; Supernovae; Core-collapse supernovae; Particle astrophysics; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Neutrino telescopes such as IceCube monitor for low-energy neutrinos O(10 MeV) produced in nuclear processes during core-collapse in supernovae. The detection horizon to the neutrino burst is 50 kpc, the distance to the Magellanic Clouds. READ MORE
