1. The Prediction of Fluid Flow, Particle In-Flight and Coating Characteristics in Atmospheric Plasma Spraying
Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to make a contribution to the development and application of models for the simulation and optimisation of plasma spray processes in production engineering. In particular, focus is placed on the development, combination and application of models for coating deposition and robot motion optimisation, the prediction of coating temperatures during deposit, the simulation of the plasma flow field, and in-flight characteristics of injected particles. 2. Particle dynamics during biomass devolatilization : Momentum exchange and particle dispersion
Abstract : Devolatilization is a heat-driven thermochemical process in which a liquid or a solid fuel releases mass in the form of volatile compounds after drying, as a result of the combination of endothermic and exothermic reactions. It differs from pyrolysis in that it does not require an inert atmosphere and that the reactant must be either solid or liquid. READ MORE

3. Microsystems Technology for Underwater Vehicle Applications
Abstract : The aim of this thesis work has been to investigate how miniaturization, such as microsystems technology, can potentially increase the scientific throughput in exploration of hard-to-reach underwater environments, such as the subglacial lakes of Antarctica, or other challenging environments, including cave systems and wrecks. A number of instruments and subsystems applicable to miniature submersibles have been developed and studied, and their potential to provide a high functionality density for size-restricted exploration platforms has been assessed. 4. Particle Coating in a Wurster Type Bed
Abstract : The Wurster bed process is frequently used for film coating. In the Wurster bed, particles circulate in the equipment and are sprayed with a liquid which forms a coating when dry. The procedure is repeated until the desired characteristics of the coating layer are obtained. READ MORE

5. Particle Characterization in the Exhaust Devices of Direct Injection Engines
Abstract : Minimizing pollutants are of utmost importance to ensure sustainability in transportation. Particle emissions from internal combustion engines are especially harmful to human health, while also contributing to global warming. READ MORE
