  1. 1. Particle dynamics during biomass devolatilization : Momentum exchange and particle dispersion

    Author : Angel David Garcia Llamas; Kentaro Umeki; Rikard Gebart; Per Gren; Peter Glarborg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biomass; devolatilization; rocketing; PIV; PTV; Energiteknik; Energy Engineering;

    Abstract : Devolatilization is a heat-driven thermochemical process in which a liquid or a solid fuel releases mass in the form of volatile compounds after drying, as a result of the combination of endothermic and exothermic reactions. It differs from pyrolysis in that it does not require an inert atmosphere and that the reactant must be either solid or liquid. READ MORE

  2. 2. Eulerian-Lagrangian modeling of particle motion in exhaust gas aftertreatment systems

    Author : Henrik Ström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; urea-SCR; particle trapping; flow-through filter; urea decomposition; diesel particulate matter; particle motion; particle filter; AdBlue-spray; Eulerian-Lagrangian modeling;

    Abstract : In the work to design and optimize new aftertreatment system devices for NOx reduction and particulate matter removal in lean engine exhaust (such as diesel exhaust), it is of great help to be able to perform quick, robust and reliable computer simulations of system performance. A suitable platform for such simulations is Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Prediction of Fluid Flow, Particle In-Flight and Coating Characteristics in Atmospheric Plasma Spraying

    Author : Per Nylén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; particle temperature; coating temperature; coating thickness; particle velocity; plasma spraying; fluid flow; modelling;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to make a contribution to the development and application of models for the simulation and optimisation of plasma spray processes in production engineering. In particular, focus is placed on the development, combination and application of models for coating deposition and robot motion optimisation, the prediction of coating temperatures during deposit, the simulation of the plasma flow field, and in-flight characteristics of injected particles. 4. 4. Stress, Flow and Particle Transport in Rock Fractures

    Author : Tomofumi Koyama; Lanru Jing; Marc Boulon; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Numerical simulation; laboratory experiments; rock fracture; coupled stress-flow-tracer test; shear displacement; fluid flow; particle transport; finite element method FEM ; particle tracking method; Navier-Stokes equation; Reynolds equation; streamline velocity dispersion.; Geoengineering; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : The fluid flow and tracer transport in a single rock fracture during shear processes has been an important issue in rock mechanics and is investigated in this thesis using Finite Element Method (FEM) and streamline particle tracking method, considering evolutions of aperture and transmissivity with shear displacement histories under different normal stresses, based on laboratory tests. The distributions of fracture aperture and its evolution during shear were calculated from the initial aperture fields, based on the laser-scanned surface roughness features of replicas of rock fracture specimens, and shear dilations measured during the coupled shear-flow-tracer tests in laboratory performed using a newly developed testing apparatus in Nagasaki University, Nagasaki, Japan. 5. 5. Particle Coating in a Wurster Type Bed

    Author : Stina Karlsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Drying; Particle; Tracking technique; Spouted bed; Fluidisation; Multiphase flow; CFD; Trajectory; Coating; Wurster;

    Abstract : The Wurster bed process is frequently used for film coating. In the Wurster bed, particles circulate in the equipment and are sprayed with a liquid which forms a coating when dry. The procedure is repeated until the desired characteristics of the coating layer are obtained. READ MORE
