  1. 1. Back pain post partum : clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Lena Nilsson-Wikmar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Activity limitations; back pain; kinematics; lifting; mobility; pain; pain provocation test; pelvic girdle pain; physiotherapy; pregnancy; post partum; rehabilitation; women;

    Abstract : Background: Half or more of pregnant women experience back pain at some time during pregnancy. Even though back pain exists post partum, it is not well documented and detailed studies concerning different back pain localisations, experiences of pain and activity abilities are scarce. 2. 2. Ante partum determination of lactate in amniotic fluid

    Author : Eva Wiberg-Itzel; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Lactate; amniotic fluid; PROM; onset of labour;

    Abstract : Background: The present studies were conducted to investigate whether lactate determination in vaginal fluids, 'Lac-test', could be used as a diagnostic test for prelabour rupture of membranes (PROM). To derive the best cut-off value for a positive test and to asses weather lactate determination in vaginal fluid was associated with, and could predict, onset of labour for woman with suspect PROM. 3. 3. Transcatheter Arterial Embolization in the Management of Life Threatening Bleeding Applied in Upper Gastrointestinal and Post Partum Bleedings

    Author : Lars-Gunnar Eriksson; Rickard Nyman; Sven Gustavsson; Krasnodar Ivancev; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Radiology; Post partum hemorrhage; Upper peptic ulcer bleeding; Transcatheter arterial embolization; Endoscopic treatment; Endoscopic marking; Metallic clip; Radiologisk forskning;

    Abstract : Transcatheter Arterial Embolization (TAE) is a method in which a catheter is inserted into an artery under fluoroscopy guidance. By using material that creates a thrombus, inserted through the catheter, the artery can be occluded and the bleeding stopped. READ MORE

  4. 4. Hormones and fluid balance during pregnancy, labor and post partum

    Author : Anitha Risberg; Mats Sjöquist; Kerstin Olsson; Sven Lyrenäs; Karolina Kublickiene; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : cortisol; estradiol; glucose; labour; osmolality; oxytocin; parturition; pregnancy; pregnancy-induced hypertension; progesterone; vasopressin; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to determine any association between plasma oxytocin and vasopressin concentrations and renal water and sodium excretion during normal pregnancy. In addition to investigate changes in concentrations of estradiol, progesterone, oxytocin, cortisol, and glucose in the blood before and in the nearest hours after delivery and if treatment with oxytocin affected these concentrations and the fluid balance during the different stages of labour. 5. 5. The genetic background of gestational diabetes mellitus

    Author : Anastasia Papadopoulou; Celiaki och diabetes; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gestational diabetes mellitus; HLA; TCF7L2; PTPN22; Post partum diabetes; Type 1 Diabetes; Type 2 Diabetes; Islet Cell Autoantibodies;

    Abstract : The aims of this work is to better determine the genetic background of gestational diabetes (GDM) and to examine how specific genes affect the development of diabetes post partum. In the DiPiS (Diabetes Prediction in Skåne) study we typed for HLA-DQB1 alleled, the transcription factor 7-like 2(TCF7L2) rs7903146, rs12255372 and rs7901695 SNPs, the 1858 C>T SNP of the protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor 22 (PTPN22) gene and we tested for the presence of islet cell autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase 65 (GAD65), insulinoma-associated antigen 2 (IA-2) and insulin in women who had been diagnosed with GDM at least once during 2000-2004.
