  1. 1. Development of Techniques for Characterization, Detection and Protein Profiling of Extracellular Vesicles

    Author : Sara Cavallaro; Jan Linnros; Apurba Dev; Hakho Lee; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellular vesicles; streaming current; fluorescence microscopy; atomic force microscopy; scanning electron microscopy; protein profiling; size profiling; Biological and Biomedical Physics; Biologisk och biomedicinsk fysik;

    Abstract : Nanosized extracellular vesicles (EVs, ∼30-2000 nm) have emerged as important mediators of intercellular communication, offering opportunities for both diagnostics and therapeutics. In particular, small EVs generated from the endolysosomal pathway (∼30-150 nm), referred to as exosomes, have attracted interest as a suitable biomarker for cancer diagnostics and treatment monitoring based on minimally invasive liquid biopsies. 2. 2. Profiling of Small Intestine Neuroendocrine Tumors

    Author : Ellinor Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; small intestine neuroendocrine tumor; somatic copy number alteration; expression profiling; APLP1; survival; targeted therapy;

    Abstract : Small intestine neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs) are malignant neoplasms usually presenting with disseminated disease and symptoms of hormone overproduction. Radical surgery is curative but can only be performed for localized disease. For most patients the disease follows a progressive and fatal course. READ MORE

  3. 3. Small Intestinal Neuroendocrine Tumor Analyses : Somatostatin Analog Effects and MicroRNA Profiling

    Author : Su-Chen Li; Valeria Giandomenico; Kjell Öberg; Marco Volante; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors; Somatostatin analogs; Laser-capture microdissection; Microarray profiling and microRNA profiling; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs) originate from serotonin-producing enterochromaffin (EC) cells in the intestinal mucosa. Somatostatin analogs (SSAs) are mainly used to control hormonal secretion and tumor growth. However, the molecular mechanisms leading to the control of SI-NETs are unknown. READ MORE

  4. 4. Gene Regulatory Networks: Dynamics and Stability

    Author : Carl Troein; Beräkningsbiologi och biologisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; systems; control; Datalogi; numerisk analys; system; kontroll; Computer science; numerical analysis; Fysik; biomathematics biometrics; Bioinformatik; medicinsk informatik; biomatematik; Physics; medical informatics; transcriptional regulation; gene regulatory networks; Bioinformatics; signaling pathway profiling; stem cell regulation; metabolic pathway; fitness; nested canalyzing rules; Kauffman networks; random Boolean networks; Fysicumarkivet:2007:Troein;

    Abstract : Life as we know it is based on cells that use proteins and RNA to carry out metabolism, self-replication, and other essential tasks. The genes that code for these molecules are encoded in DNA, and through the processes of transcription and translation the cell expresses its genes. READ MORE

  5. 5. Probalistic Methods In Genomic Data Analysis

    Author : Thomas Breslin; Beräkningsbiologi och biologisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pathway profiling; Bioinformatics; medical informatics; biomathematics biometrics; Bioinformatik; medicinsk informatik; differential gene expression; probabilistic methods; Natural science; Naturvetenskap; biomatematik; annotation analysis; microarray; Fysicumarkivet A:2004:Breslin;

    Abstract : In this thesis, three aspects of gene expression data analysis are discussed: Differential gene expression is addressed by a probabilistic method. Gene annotation enrichment analysis is discussed in the context of multiple hypothesis testing and the choice of null hypothesis. READ MORE
