    Abstract : The CIS solar cell family features both a high stability and world-class performances. They can be deposited on a wide variety of substrates and absorb the entire solar spectrum only using a thickness of a few micrometers. READ MORE

  3. 13. Polygeneration District Heating and Cooling Systems Based on Renewable Resources

    Author : Natalia Kabalina; Mário Manuel Gonçalves Costa; Weihong Yang; Andrew Martin; Luis Barreiros Martins; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; district heating and cooling systems; polygeneration; refuse derived fuel; municipal solid waste; gasification.; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : Traditional district heating (DH) and district heating and cooling (DHC) systems have to address two principal challenges: phase-out of fossil fuels in favor of renewables; and profit instability related to declines in heating and cooling demands along with electricity price fluctuations. These obstacles can be overcome at once through upgrading these systems to a polygeneration concept by means of a retrofitted air-steam gasifier and gas upgrading equipment, enabling the use of renewable feedstocks such as refuse derived fuel (RDF) and municipal solid waste (MSW). 4. 14. Sustainable production of bio-energy products in the sawmill industry

    Author : Anna Vidlund; KTH; []
    Keywords : sawmill industry; energy efficiency; heat recovery; integration; biofuel; upgrading; district heating; fuel pellets; CHP; VOC; CO2;

    Abstract : One of the great challenges facing society is to convert theglobal energy system to a sustainable process. Currently, 80%of the world´s energy is supplied through the combustionof fossil fuels. Not only are the fossil resources limited, theutilisation also increases the level of greenhouse gases in theatmosphere. READ MORE

  5. 15. PV water pumping systems for grassland and farmland conservation

    Author : Pietro Elia Campana; Jinyue Yan; Bengt Perers; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Grassland degradation is considered as one of the worst environmental and economic problems in China because of the negative impacts on water and food security. The application of the photovoltaic water pumping (PVWP) technology for irrigation is an innovative and sustainable solution to curb the progress of grassland desertification and to promote the conservation of farmland in remote areas.
