  1. 6. Citrus Waste Biorefinery: Process Development, Simulation and Economic Analysis

    Author : Mohammad Pour Bafrani; Mohammad Pourbafrani; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; process simulation; encapsulated yeast; Citrus wastes; economic analysis; computational fluid dynamic simulation; pectin; limonene; methane; ethanol;

    Abstract : The production of ethanol and other sustainable products including methane, limonene and pectin from citrus wastes (CWs) was studied in the present thesis. In the first part of the work, the CWs were hydrolyzed using enzymes – pectinase, cellulase and β-glucosidase – and the hydrolyzate was fermented using encapsulated yeasts in the presence of the inhibitor compound ‘limonene’. 2. 7. Spectroscopic data and multivariate analysis : tools to study genetic perturbations in poplar trees

    Author : Susanne Wiklund; Ulf Edlund; Olav Kvalheim; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : In our society in the 21st century one of the greatest challenges is to provide raw materials to the industry in a sustainable way. This requires increased use of renewable raw materials such as wood. Wood is widely used in pulp, paper and textile industries and ongoing research efforts aim to extend the use of wood in e.g. READ MORE

  3. 8. Intestinal Mucosa Reconstitution and Protection: Impact of Luminal Factors

    Author : Yilei Mao; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Probiotics; Pectin; Oat; Methotrexate; Lactobacilli; Intestinal injury; Intestinal immunity; Intestinal barrier; Enterocolitis; Fiber; Radiation; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Abstract : The gastrointestinal mucosa is one of the most rapidly proliferating tissues in the body, and serves as a barrier to luminal bacteria and toxins. Enteral nutrition, luminal fiber and probiotics are of crucial importance for the integrity of this barrier. READ MORE

  4. 9. Regulation of bile acids by prebiotic food components : Studies in rat caecum and in serum of mice and humans

    Author : Tannaz Ghaffarzadegan; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bile acids; Dietary fibre; Fat; Pectin; Guar gum; Barley; Lingonberry; Turmeric; Short-chain fatty acids; Gut microbiota; Caecum; Serum; Rat; Mice; Humans; GC-FID; UHPLC-MS;

    Abstract : Bile acids (BA) are formed from cholesterol in the liver and, apart from being part of fat digestion, they also act as signalling molecules in several health-related physiological processes. BA composition is regulated by gut microbiota as well as dietary fibre (DF) and fat in the diet. READ MORE

  5. 10. Biochemical Study and Technical Applications of Fungal Pectinase

    Author : Jing Zhang; Gunnar Johansson; Gunnar Henriksson; Jonas Hafrén; Uppsala universitet; []
