1. Mechanisms of Blister Formation on Concrete Bridge Decks with Waterprooving Asphalt Pavement Systems
Abstract : Bridge decks are commonly subjected to harsh environmental conditions that often lead to serious corrosion problems triggered by blisters under the hot mix asphalt bridge deck surfacing and secretly evolving during weather exposure until damage is often detected too late. Blisters may form under both the waterproofing dense mastic asphalt layer or under the waterproofing membrane which is often applied as additional water protection under the mastic asphalt (MA). 2. Plate bonding : strengthening of existing concrete structures with epoxy bonded plates of steel or fibre reinforced plastics
Abstract : This thesis deals with several aspects of the plate bonding problem, i.e. when steel or fibre reinforced plastics (FRP) plates are bonded to a concrete structure with the use of an epoxy adhesive. Both theoretical work and laboratory tests are presented as well as a full scale test on a strengthened concrete bridge. READ MORE

3. Interfibre Joint Strength under Mixed Modes of Loading
Abstract : The load carrying capacity of interbre joints are one of the key entities for build-up of strength inpaper materials. In order to gain insight in how to tailor the macroscopic properties of such materialsby chemical and/or mechanical treatments at a microscopic level, direct measurement of individualbre{bre crosses are typically performed. 4. Testing and Evaluation of Interfibre Joint Strength under Mixed-Mode Loading
Abstract : The failure properties of interfibre bonds are the key for the build-up of strength in fibrous materials such as paper and paperboard. In order to tailor the properties of such materials by chemical or mechanical treatments and to learn how such modifications influence the properties at a microscopic level, direct measurement of individual fibre--fibre crosses are typically performed. 5. A Study on Sandwich Structures : Development, Mechanical Characterization and Numerical Modeling
Abstract : Legislative demands force the automotive industry to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. At the same time, crashworthiness must not be compromised. A ve-hicle’s GHG emissions, such as carbon dioxide, is dependent on its fuel consump-tion. Lowering the vehicle weight, reducing fuel consumption, will therefor reduce emissions. READ MORE
