  1. 1. Amphiphilic Peptide Interactions with Complex Biological Membranes : Effect of peptide properties on antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects

    Author : Shalini Singh; Martin Malmsten; Per Hansson; Debora Berti; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : LPS; Antimicrobial; Peptide; Inflammation; Infections; Liposome; Binding; PEG; Farmaceutisk fysikalisk kemi; Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry;

    Abstract : With increasing problem of resistance development in bacteria against conventional antibiotics, as well as problems associated with diseases either triggered or enhanced by infection, there is an urgent need to identify new types of effective therapeutics for the treatment of infectious diseases and its consequences. Antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory peptides have attracted considerable interest as potential new antibiotics in this context. READ MORE

  2. 2. New Proteomics Methods and Fundamental Aspects of Peptide Fragmentation

    Author : Mikhail Savitski; Roman Zubarev; Per Andren; David Fenyö; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Bioinformatics; Proteomics; Peptide fragmentation; Bioinformatik;

    Abstract : The combination of collision-activated dissociation, (CAD) and electron capture dissociation, (ECD) yielded a 125% increase in protein identification. The S-score was developed for measuring the information content in MS/MS spectra. This measure made it possible to single out good quality spectra that were not identified by a search engine. 3. 3. Improved Neuropeptide Identification : Bioinformatics and Mass Spectrometry

    Author : Maria Fälth Savitski; Per Andrén; David Fenyö; Per Svenningsson; Ronald Beavis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bioinformatics; neuropepides; database; peptide identification; peptide fragmentation; mass spectrometry; tandem mass spectromerty; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik;

    Abstract : Bioinformatic methods were developed for improved identification of endogenous peptides using mass spectrometry. As a framework for these methods, a database for endogenous peptides, SwePep, was created. It was designed for storing information about endogenous peptides including tandem mass spectra. READ MORE

  5. 5. Method and technique development in peptide and protein mass Spectrometry

    Author : Kristina Håkansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Materials science; electrospray ionization; peptide sequencing; Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance; hydrogen deuterium exchange; protein structure; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Molecular Biotechnology; Molekylär bioteknik;

    Abstract : Mechanistic studies and applicability of several methods and techniques for studying peptides and proteins with mass spectrometry are presented. A model for the protein molecular ion formation in explosive matrix-assisted plasma desorption mass spectrometry is proposed, involving a contribution from the chemical energy release during conversion of the explosive, an enhanced protonation through collisions with products from the explosive decay, and electron scavenging by other products.
