  1. 1. Peptidomimetic Enzyme Inhibitors : Targeting M. tuberculosis Ribonucleotide Reductase and Hepatitis C Virus NS3 Protease

    Author : Johanna Nurbo; Anders Hallberg; Anders Karlén; Anja Sandström; Per Arvidsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; enzyme inhibitor; peptidomimetics; structure-activity relationship; tuberculosis; ribonucleotide reductase; hepatitis C virus; NS3 protease; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the design and synthesis of inhibitors targeting Mycobacterium tuberculosis ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS3 protease; enzymes that have been identified as potential drug targets for the treatment of tuberculosis and hepatitis C, respectively. Small peptides have been recognized as inhibitors of these enzymes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Peptidomimetics based on ring-fused 2-pyridones : probing pilicide function in uropathogenic E. coli and identification of Aβ-peptide aggregation inhibitors

    Author : Veronica Åberg; Fredrik Almqvist; Jan Kihlberg; Morten Grötli; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 2-pyridone; peptidomimetic; antibacterial; pili; Escherichia coli; virulence; amyloid; Alzheimer’s.; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the synthesis and biological evaluation of highly substituted, ring-fused 2-pyridones. The utility of the bicyclic 2-pyridones to gain fundamental insights into the disease processes of bacterial infections and Alzheimer’s disease has been investigated. READ MORE

  3. 3. Computational Modeling of the AT2 Receptor and AT2 Receptor Ligands : Investigating Ligand Binding, Structure–Activity Relationships, and Receptor-Bound Models

    Author : Christian Sköld; Anders Karlén; Anders Hallberg; Torbjörn Lundstedt; Tommy Liljefors; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Rational conversion of biologically active peptides to nonpeptide compounds with retained activity is an appealing approach in drug development. One important objective of the work presented in this thesis was to use computational modeling to aid in such a conversion of the peptide angiotensin II (Ang II, Asp-Arg-Val-Tyr-Ile-His-Pro-Phe). Abstract : New strategies are needed to counter the growing problem of bacterial resistance to antibiotics. One such strategy is to design compounds that target bacterial virulence, which could work separately or in concert with conventional bacteriostatic or bactericidal antibiotics. READ MORE

  5. 5. Design, Synthesis, and Evaluation of Functionalized Chroman-4-one and Chromone Derivatives. Somatostatin receptor agonists and Sirt2 inhibitors

    Author : Maria Fridén-Saxin; Göteborgs universitet; []

    Abstract : Peptides are involved in many physiological processes such as regulation of blood-pressure, food intake, pain transmission and blood-glucose levels. They consist of amino acids that are connected through amide bonds which make peptides hydrophilic and conformationally flexible. READ MORE
