  1. 1. Quantitative electromyographic studies of the perineal muscles in normal subjects and patients suffering from anal or urinary incontinence

    Author : Øystein Aanestad; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Interference pattern; quantitative EMG; perineal muscles; anal and urinary incontinence; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; kirurgi; särskilt urologi; Urology;

    Abstract : The aims of the study were to characterize the interference pattern in perineal muscles in healthy subjects with the use of quantitative EMG techniques, to evaluate if prostatic surgery had any effect on the interference pattern and furthermore to examine the interference pattern in the perineal muscles in patients suffering from urinary or anal incontinence.The interference pattern in the perineal muscles was examined with a computerized analysis, the Turns and Amplitude (T/A) analysis, and the innervation pattern of the muscles was examined with single fiber electromyography measuring the fiber density. 3. 3. The impact of maternal body mass index on pelvic floor during labor and after childbirth, and a new anesthetic approach for repair of perineal lacerations

    Author : Linda Hjertberg; Marie Blomberg; Eva Uustal; Sofia Pihl; Gunilla Tegerstedt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Objectives: This thesis aimed to assess the impact of maternal body mass index (BMI) on pelvic floor during labor and focusing on pelvic floor function following an anal sphincter injury (OASI). Additionally, the objective was to design a study protocol for a randomized controlled trial (RCT) with the objective to evaluate the impact of supplementary anesthesia during the examination and repair of obstetric perineal lacerations. 4. 4. Pelvic floor dysfunction after childbirth : symptoms, diagnosis, treatment

    Author : Emilia Rotstein; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Vaginal delivery is a trauma to the levator ani muscles, the perineal muscles, and the anal sphincter complex (1-3). A levator ani deficiency cannot be surgically remedied and increases the risk of pelvic floor dysfunction later in life (4-6). READ MORE

    Abstract : Background: Up to 80% of women are affected by a perineal laceration after their first vaginal birth. An estimated 40–50% of lacerations involve the perineal muscles, and up to 7% are obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASI). READ MORE
