  1. 1. Quasi-Phasematched nonlinear processes in KTiOPO4 isomorphs

    Author : Anna Fragemann; KTH; []
    Keywords : nonlinear optics; optical parametric oscillator; optical parametric amplifier; KTiOPO4; RbTiOPO4; quasi-phasematched; electric field poling;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the use of nonlinear crystals from theKTiOPO4(KTP) family with the aim to extend the possibleapplications for laser sources and to gain more knowledge aboutthe material’s benefits and limits. The work focussed onoptical parametric oscillators (OPOs) and optical parametricamplifiers (OPAs), which employ second order nonlinearprocesses. READ MORE

  2. 2. Ferroelectric domain engineering and characterization for photonic applications

    Author : Simonetta Grilli; Fredrik Laurell; Wolfgang Sohler; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LiNbO; KTiOPO; interferometry; digital holography; electric field poling; electro-optic materials; holographic lithography; ferroelectric domains; nanostructures; microstructures; Optical physics; Optisk fysik;

    Abstract : Lithium niobate (LiNbO3) and KTiOPO4 (KTP) are ferroelectric crystals of considerable interest in different fields of optics and optoelectronics. Due to its large values of the nonlinear optical, electro-optic (EO), piezoelectric and acousto-optical coefficients, LiNbO3 is widely used for laser frequency conversion using the quasiphase matching (QPM) approach where the sign of nonlinearity has been periodically modulated by electric field poling (EFP). 3. 3. Domain engineering in KTiOPO4

    Author : Carlota Canalias; Fredrik Laurell; Benoît Boulanger; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quasi-phase matching; KTiOPO4; ferroelectric domains; atomic force microscopy; periodic electric field poling; polarization switching; second harmonic generation; Optical physics; Optisk fysik;

    Abstract : Ferroelectric crystals are commonly used in nonlinear optics for frequency conversion of laser radiation. The quasi-phase matching (QPM) approach uses a periodically modulated nonlinearity that can be achieved by periodically inverting domains in ferroelectric crystals and allows versatile and efficient frequency conversion in the whole transparency region of the material. 4. 4. Fabrication and characterization of periodically poled KTB and RB-doped KTB for applications in the visible and UV

    Author : Shunhua Wang; Fredrik Laurell; Peter Smith; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nonlinear optics; second-harmonic generation; quasi-phasematching; type-I QPM SHG; type-II QPM SHG; KTP; RKTP; periodic electric-field poling; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the fabrication and the characterization of periodically-poled crystals for use in lasers to generate visible and UV radiation by second-harmonic generation (SHG) through quasi-phasematching (QPM). Such lasers are of practical importance in many applications like high-density optical storage, biomedical instrumentation, colour printing, and for laser displays. READ MORE

  5. 5. Characterization of domain switching and optical damage properties in ferroelectrics

    Author : Junji Hirohashi; Fredrik Laurell; Ady Arie; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quasi-phase matching; ferroelectric domains; stoichiometric LiNbO3; stoichiometric LiTaO3; KTiOPO4; KNbO3; polarization switching; periodic electric field poling; optical damages; Optical physics; Optisk fysik;

    Abstract : Nonlinear optical frequency conversion is one of the most important key techniques in order to obtain lasers with wavelengths targeted for specific applications. In order to realize efficient and tailored lasers, the quasi-phase-matching (QPM) approach using periodically-poled ferroelectric crystals is getting increasingly important. READ MORE
