1. Importance of peripheral arterial disease as a risk marker in patients with myocardial infarction
Abstract : The purpose of this thesis was to describe the true prevalence of widespread arterial disease in a cohort with patients with a recent myocardial infarction (MI) to find valuable clinical methods to detect these patients. Our aim was also to investigate biomarker relationships with peripheral artery disease (PAD) and the importance of PAD in patients’ long-term outcomes. READ MORE

2. Popliteal Artery Aneurysm : Epidemiology, Surgical Management and Outcome
Abstract : Even if popliteal artery aneurysm (PAA) is the most common peripheral aneurysm, no single surgeon or institution has enough patients to study this disease with appropriate scientific methods, and no population-based investigation exists. PAA epidemiology, treatment, management, and outcome were studied in a population-based study of 571 patients (717 legs) primarily operated on for PAAs and 100 episodes of preoperative thrombolysis in Sweden between 1987 and 2002. 3. Echocardiographic methods for assessment of coronary artery disease
Abstract : Upright bicycle exercise echocardiography with digital image acquisition in seated position during exercise and in recumbent position before and immediately after exercise was performed in 66 men, one month after an episode of unstable coronary arte1y disease. It was difficult to obtain images of adequate quality during exercise but new or worsening of wall motion abnormalities not seen in recumbent position after exercise were detected at peak-exercise in patients with good image quality. 5. Detection of apoptosis in patients with coronary artery disease : Assessment of temporal patterns and potential sources
Abstract : The atherosclerotic process and its consequences are considered driven by an imbalance between pro- and ant-inflammatory actions. One contributing factor in this scenario is an altered regulation of apoptosis, which affects both immune, vascular and myocardial cells. READ MORE
