Abstract : Oral manifestations have been reported as risk factors for diabetes mellitus, but diabetes has also attracted the attention as part of the influence on oral disease. The aims of this thesis were to evaluate several aspects of oral health among type 2 diabetic subjects in relation to various diabetes-related variables and to health-related quality of life (HRQL). 12. Cryptogenic Polyneuropathy : Clinical, Environmental, And Genetic Studies
Abstract : Objectives: The purpose of this medical thesis was to describe the clinical and neurophysiological features and to evaluate the health related quality of life (HR-QoL) in patients with cryptogenic polyneuropathy. We also wanted to investigate different occupational, and leisure time exposures as determinants for cryptogenic polyneuropathy, and to analyze whether polymorphisms for the null alleles of Glutathione S-Transferase Mu-1 (GSTM1), and Theta-1 (GSTT1), and a low activity genetic variation of epoxide hydrolase (EPHX) affect the risk of developing polyneuropathy. 13. Diabetic neuropathy clinical and experimental studies
Abstract : A classification of impaired thermal sensibility is proposed, reflecting the severity of diabetic polyneuropathy in terms of its regional extension. The classification may be a useful tool in cross-sectional and long-term studies of patients with diabetes mellitus. READ MORE

14. Peripheral neuropathy and altered cobalamin metabolism in Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders
Abstract : Peripheral neuropathy is a disorder of the peripheral nervous system (PNS) that may carry different underlying aetiologies. Studies have suggested PNS involvement may be prevalent in neurological diseases that traditionally have been regarded primarily as disorders of the central nervous system (CNS), including the neurodegenerative disorder Parkinson’s disease (PD). 15. Peripheral polyneuropathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus and impaired glucose tolerance. Correlations between morphology, neurophysiology, and clinical findings
Abstract : Diabetic peripheral polyneuropathy (PN) is a common and serious complication of diabetes. The prevalence of PN is rising with the global burden of type 2 diabetes. The causal mechanisms of PN are not fully understood, but both vascular and metabolic factors play a role. READ MORE
