  1. 1. Cluster Dynamics and Industrial Policy in Peripheral Regions : a study of cluster formation as a local development process

    Author : Cali Nuur; Staffan Laestadius; David Jacobson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Peripheral regions; Industrial policy; regional development policy; cluster dynamics; call centress; Sweden; Hälsingland; Landsortsregioner; Industriell politik; Regional utvecklingspolitik; Klusterdynamik; Call centers; Sverige; Hälsingland; Industrial organisation; administration and economics; Industriell organisation; administration och ekonomi;

    Abstract : The rapid growth of the global economy in the last two decades has created a new economic reality in many municipalities in peripheral regions of Sweden. Having earlier relied on traditional industry as the source of employment, today municipalities in peripheral regions are struggling to survive in a completely changed economic landscape, with new conditions for development. 2. 2. Epidemiological aspects of peripheral arterial disease

    Author : Birgitta Sigvant; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Peripheral arterial disease; prevalence; risk factors; sex differences; diagnosis; intermittent claudication; preventive medication; cost effectiveness;

    Abstract : Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is defined as atherosclerosis in the arteries distal to the aortic bifurcation, with or without symptoms in the legs. It is diagnosed by ankle brachial pressure index (ABI) measurements and symptoms, and a confirmed diagnosis is associated with an increased cardiovascular (CV) mortality reaching the same levels as in patients with symptomatic coronary disease. 3. 3. Peripheral airway function in asthma and cystic fibrosis. Measurements using inert gas washout methods

    Author : Henrik Ljungberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acinar; adults; airway hyperresponsiveness; asthma; children; conductive; functional residual capacity; gas trapping; inert gas washout; infants; peripheral airways; plethysmography; respiratory function tests; ventilation inhomogeneity;

    Abstract : It is increasingly recognised that asthma and cystic fibrosis (CF) frequently involves the peripheral airways. Characteristic features of abnormal peripheral airway function are uneven ventilation distribution and increased gas trapping. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dendritic and axonal ion channels supporting neuronal integration : From pyramidal neurons to peripheral nociceptors

    Author : Marcus Petersson; Erik Fransén; Theodore Cummins; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ion channels; computational modeling; simulations; dendrites; axons; TRP; hippocampus; C-fiber nociceptors; pain;

    Abstract : The nervous system, including the brain, is a complex network with billions of complex neurons. Ion channels mediate the electrical signals that neurons use to integrate input and produce appropriate output, and could thus be thought of as key instruments in the neuronal orchestra. READ MORE

  5. 5. Taxane-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy among Early-Stage Breast Cancer Survivors : Prevalence, Risk Factors, Quality of Life and Genetic Prediction Models

    Author : Kristina Engvall; Elisabeth Åvall-Lundqvist; Henrik Gréen; Niklas Loman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Early-stage breast cancer; Taxane; Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy; Risk factors; Polygenic prediction models;

    Abstract : Background: Taxane-induced peripheral neuropathy (TIPN) is a common and distressful side effect. Little is known on how long TIPN persist and its effect on health-related quality of life (HRQL). READ MORE
