6. Pregnancy Complications and Cardiovascular Disease
Abstract : Women with a history of pregnancy complications have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) later in life. The overall aims were to investigate pregnancy complications as cardiovascular risk factors; whether they have predictive value for the spread of atherosclerosis in older women, whether they are associated with atherosclerotic CVD after adjusting for major confounders, both at the population-level and in women with structural heart disease; and to investigate cardiovascular biomarkers in women with spontaneous preterm birth. 7. Cerebral Blood Flow and Cognition. Clinical studies on Dementia and Cognitive Decline
Abstract : The importance of early detection of brain changes during ageing has been recognised. Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is a method used for estimation of cerebral blood flow (CBF) in clinical work and in research. READ MORE

8. Circulating immune complexes in atherosclerotic vascular disease
Abstract : We have investigated the association of the humoral immune factors circulating immune complexes (CICs) and autoantibodies against cardiolipin (aCL) and oxidatively modified LDL (oxLDL) to atherosclerotic vascular diseases. In a prospective nested case-control study, in which healthy 50-year-old men were followed for 20 years, the prevalence of elevated CICs and the concentration of CICs were higher in men who developed myocardial infarction. 9. Decellularization as a method to generate a new generation of vascular grafts
Abstract : Decellularization of blood vessels is a technique to remove cells from the extracellular matrix (ECM), which can be used as a vascular graft for peripheral or coronary blood vessel bypass surgery. This thesis focuses on the optimization of decellularization strategies for blood vessels such as porcine vena cava, to determine the optimal decellularization protocol (Paper I) and the ideal method of applying liquids during the decellularization process (Paper II). 10. Cardiovascular risk factors and peripheral vascular function in lung transplant recipients
Abstract : Objective: Cardiovascular disease is a major contributor to morbidity and mortality after organ transplantation. Development of cardiovascular risk factors, like hypertension, is common after transplantation. READ MORE
