  1. 1. Methods for interval-censored data and testing for stochastic dominance

    Author : Angel G. Angelov; Magnus Ekström; Maria Karlsson; Bengt Kriström; Per Johansson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Interval-censored data; Informative censoring; Self-selected intervals; Questionnaire-based studies; Maximum likelihood; Permutation test; Two-sample test; Stochastic dominance; Four-decision test; Statistics; statistik;

    Abstract : This thesis includes four papers: the first three of them are concerned with methods for interval-censored data, while the forth paper is devoted to testing for stochastic dominance.In many studies, the variable of interest is observed to lie within an interval instead of being observed exactly, i.e. READ MORE

  2. 2. Nonparametric tests for comparing two treatments by using ordinal data

    Author : Helen Wahlström; Elisabeth Svensson; Jan Lanke; Sture Holm; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Statistik; change; clinical trial; Monte Carlo; ordered categorical data; paired data; permutation test; Pitman efficiency; power; stratification; ties; visual analogue scale; Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney statistic; statistik; Statistics; Statistik; Statistics; Statistik;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns four nonparametric tests for comparing two treatments in a randomized controlled clinical trial when the main response variable generates discrete or continuous ordinal data and measurements are made at baseline and follow-up. In the Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test (WMW) the baseline values are not taken into account at all, but in the other three tests both baseline and follow-up values are used. READ MORE

  3. 3. Computational Medical Image Analysis : With a Focus on Real-Time fMRI and Non-Parametric Statistics

    Author : Anders Eklund; Hans Knutsson; Mats Andersson; Stephen LaConte; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : functional magnetic resonance imaging; brain computer interfaces; canonical correlation analysis; random permutation test; graphics processing unit;

    Abstract : Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is a prime example of multi-disciplinary research. Without the beautiful physics of MRI, there wouldnot be any images to look at in the first place. To obtain images of goodquality, it is necessary to fully understand the concepts of the frequencydomain. READ MORE

  4. 4. Aspects of multilinear algebra in statistical analysis of seasonal multivariate time series

    Author : Björn Holmquist; Statistiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Representations of concepts from multivariate statistics are studied using multilinear algebra. Applications are given to the analysis of seasonal multivariate time series. The first paper concerns a class of permutation matrices which are representations of permutation operators on tensor spaces. READ MORE

  5. 5. Which Genes are Involved? - Statistical Planning and Analysis of Human Genetic Samples

    Author : Staffan Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of six papers related to the statistical planning and analysis of human genetic samples. The first four mainly concern statistical methodology, while the last two are applied papers in genetics and medicin. In paper A an alternative method of estimating the locus specific sibling relative risk .lambda. READ MORE
