  1. 1. Exciton coupling and energy transfer in perylene-based systems

    Author : Alexei Cravcenco; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic Chemistry; Photophysics; Energy transfer; FRET; Perylene; J-aggregate;

    Abstract : Understanding the nature of photoinduced processes in organic molecules is essential for the design and synthesis of compounds with desired photochemical properties. This dissertation aims for gaining knowledge and mechanistic understanding of energy transfer in perylene-based systems. READ MORE

  2. 2. Computational Investigation of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

    Author : Mattias Nilsing; Sten Lunell; Lars Ojamäe; Petter Persson; Sven Stafström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Quantum chemistry; titanium dioxide; anatase; rutile; pyridine; perylene; nanostructured; interface; electronic coupling; electron injection; quantum chemistry; phosphonic acid; Kvantkemi;

    Abstract : Interfaces between semiconductors and adsorbed molecules form a central area of research in surface science, occurring in many different contexts. One such application is the so-called Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) where the nanostructured dye-semiconductor interface is of special interest, as this is where the most important ultrafast electron transfer process takes place. 3. 3. Characterisation of Organic Dyes for Solid State Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

    Author : Ute Cappel; Anders Hagfeldt; Gerrit Boschloo; Udo Bach; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; energy alignment; hole conductor; injection; interface; perylene; photo-induced absorption; regeneration; spectroelectrochemistry; spiro-MeOTAD; Stark effect; titanium dioxide; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Energy from the sun can be converted to low cost electricity using dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). Dye molecules adsorbed to the surface of mesoporous TiO2 absorb light and inject electrons into the semiconductor. READ MORE

  4. 4. Quantum Chemical Modeling of Dye-Sensitized Titanium Dioxide : Ruthenium Polypyridyl and Perylene Dyes, TiO2 Nanoparticles, and Their Interfaces

    Author : Maria J. Lundqvist; Sten Lunell; Petter Persson; Lars Ojamäe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantum chemistry; density functional theory; chromophore; nanocrystal; interface; photoexcitation; triplet state; surface electron transfer; electronic coupling strength; Kvantkemi; Quantum chemistry; Kvantkemi;

    Abstract : Quantum chemical calculations have been used to model dye-sensitized nanostructured titanium dioxide systems that can be used in solar cells for solar energy to electricity conversion. Structural, electronic and spectral properties of isolated dyes and both bare and dye-sensitized TiO2 have been calculated with density functional theory, providing detailed information about both the separate parts and the dye-TiO2 interface. 5. 5. Development of Mild Methods for Selective Covalent Functionalization of Graphene

    Author : Anna Lundstedt; Grennberg Helena; Bo Wegge Laursen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; graphene models; graphite; local ionization energy surfaces; graphene functionalization; Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot organisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis discusses methods for the comparatively mild covalent functionalization of graphene. Several graphene models were investigated: polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), chemical vapor deposition (CVD)-graphene on SiO2/Si substrate, graphite foil, graphite flakes, kish graphite and highly oriented pyrolytic graphite.
